Three of us stayed two nights at the Orange Tabby in Port Hardy on Vancouver Island before boarding a liveaboard boat to scuba dive the area. James was our host, as his wife was out of town. My husband and I stayed in a larger room with private bath, queen bed, and plenty of storage; our friend was just across the hall in a slightly smaller room with private bath. We were the only three there as it was a bit out of season, so we just left our doors open much of the time. We were about a two minute walk from town, one minute from the Sporty Bar & Grill, which had fantastic soup and fish dinners, and a few minutes from the Supreme Convenience Store where we had wonderful ice cream.

James cooks a mean breakfast: porridge, pumpkin/walnut bread, melon, yogurt, and zucchini quiche the first morning, and porridge, poached egg & fried tomato on an English muffin, scones, yogurt, watermelon, and smoked salmon the second morning.

Each room had a cute little electric fireplace, but only one could be operated at a time, or a circuit blew. There's a pet cat and a dog who aren't supposed to be downstairs, but sometimes sneaked down for some company. James was working on a kitchen/dining area downstairs where the bedrooms are, so small groups can do their own cooking, and James can serve breakfast downstairs instead of upstairs where he and Susan live. He's also planning on putting a door at the bottom of the steps for more privacy and to keep the animals upstairs.

Port Hardy is a great place for exploring and hiking, and the Orange Tabby B&B was the perfect place for us to stay.

Stayed 2 nights at Orange Tabby prior to getting the ferry north to Prince Rupert. Fantastic and friendly hosts with infectious enthusiasm and great recommendations. Bottle of homemade fizz on arrival was welcomed after a long drive. Only wish we could have stayed longer – there’s so much to offer.

We have chosen this B&B based on other reviews on trip advisor and we were not disappointed. James and Susan are super nice people and great hosts. We had a room with private bathroom ( which had very nice shower) and our own gas heater which came handy for drying some wet clothes. We had 3 breakfasts with them and every one was different and delicious. I have to admit thinking salmon for breakfast would not be my choice but it was wonderful specially was caught by James and prepare with his recipe. Great information source about the area and if you need help with booking or setting your adventure they there to help you. If we go back we will defiantly stay with them. We also got to meet their sweet pug Rocky and tabby cat Jose both cute and sweet.

Room Tip: I think all rooms are the same but not sure.

The north of Vancouver Island is a unique possibility to see some of the greatest wildlife in one of the most beautiful settings and surroundings you'll ever come across. If you love nature and everything that lives in it, then you should visit Port Hardy. Stay for at least 5 days, you won't regret it. Bald eagles, Blackbears, Humpback whales and Orcas: It's all there and you'll see them plenty.

During you stay in the north of Vancouver Island choose the Orange Tabby in Port Hardy. The rooms a very luxurious and the friendly owners James and Susan will provide you with the best breakfast and many good tips of how to spend your day out playing in the wild.

Enjoy your first time there, I know we will be back...

My husband and I stayed here one night before taking the ferry to Prince Rupert. The location was very convenient, on a quiet street just a few minutes from the ferry terminal. The hosts, James and Susan, were so friendly and very enthusiastic about sharing information about Port Hardy! The room was very clean and comfortable. We were provided with breakfast-to-go to take with us on the ferry since we had to be there very early. I highly recommend the Orange Tabby for anyone wanting a clean, comfortable, convenient place to stay in Port Hardy! Your hosts will ensure that you are not disappointed!

Our short one-night stay was not enough in Port Hardy. We stayed at the Orange Tabby after a long day on the ferry. Our room was clean and contemporary, the bed heavenly after the long day on the ferry. There were many thoughtful touches - coffee/tea, a small refrigerator, items in the bathroom, robes, slippers, quality linens. The best part of the visit was Susan's warm welcome when we arrived and the fabulous breakfast Susan and James prepared the next morning. We wanted a quick look at a bear before heading home and Susan was very helpful in helping us track one down. Thank you Susan and James for your thoughtful hospitality.

Our family spent 4 wonderful days at the Orange Tabby B&B with the lovely Susan and James. Other than outstanding service and wonderful facilities, the best part about our stay was how welcome and "looked after" we felt.

I knew we were in good hands, when I first spoke with James to make our reservation - I was a bit nervous as we were travelling with our 13 month old daughter, and wasn't sure how keen a B&B would be at accomodating an infant. Well James, right away sounded so excited to have a little one staying, and ensured we would have plenty of room for her travel bed etc. He was right! - our room was big enough to fit an extra infant travel bed, AND provided loads of space for our crawling daughter.

We were welcomed with a lovely glass of homemade wine, a custom that continued every night when we returned from our busy days of adventures. On days we wanted to have an early start - Susan packed us a great breakfast to go, and on days we stayed for breakfast - we were treated to a fabulous and wonderfully prepared breakfast. Susan even brought out Grover her puppet to entertain our daughter (try getting that kind of service at any other B&B). Both Susan and James are so knowledgeable about the area from where to have a nice meal, to the best place to see an orca!

Thank you Susan and James - we loved our stay at your lovely home, and we look forward to our return trip to Port Hardy!
