The stepping stones and surrounding areas are beautiful and well worth a visit. They are accessible for small children and if you walk down the right hand side, you can add a little more adventure with the uneven surfaces. Their is a good path down the left hand side for pushchairs or those who want tla gentle stroll rather than a rock climb!
Lots of children were paddling in the water so you'll need a change of clothes and towel if you want to that.
Toilets available on the main car (car park was £3 and toilets 20p). Also a nice little snack hut and gift shop. If you have a national trust membership, you can park in Ilam Park for free and walk down which extends the walk by a couple of miles.
Only downside is that is was very busy! Queuing to get over the stones and negotiating around lots of people to get down the path.

This was the first time I'd been back since 1991. This time with my husband. He wanted to see the stepping stones. So did I.
Except I saw more than he did. When I'd almost reached the other side, a dog was also in hurry. I ended up face down in the rocks, stones and grit. Dog and owner vanished. I enjoyed the view while waiting for help to arrive in form of first responders and then paramedics. The one time phone signal would've been useful.
Next I visit I will watch out for dogs not on leads.

We have been here quite a few times now and this is a great location to visit. I would highly recommend it!!
Especially on a warm day when you can take a paddle in the stream, the stepping stones are great to cross over the stream, lovely walk with ice creams at the end, £2 each for ice-creams and £3 to pay in main car park.

On way back from walk along River Dove joined the short queue to walk over the stepping stones. A very fast flowing river. Quite large flat rocks , so steady. Amazing scenery. Beautiful
