“Perfect Weekend Retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

We hired all 4 Yurts and the family room in the B&B for a birthday celebratory weekend, 10 adults and 10 children. The Yurts had every amenity you would wish for and were clean and spacious. Beryl, Peter and all the staff made us feel very welcome, allowing the children to interact with the animals, they even provide toys for the children to ride on (small bicycles, tractors etc). There is an outdoor swimming pool and breakfast at the farm is a must.

This is a wonderful place to stay and Beryl and Peter are generous, thoughtful hosts. We stayed in Poppy (a yurt) and had a magical three days. Our three kids (6, 4 and 2) loved the farm. It is such a relaxed, safe environment. They made ready use of the freely provided bikes, trikes and ride on (kids) tractors. They imposed themselves as "helpers" to Beryl at feeding time and were seen trailing after her like three chicks after their mother. Pigs, chickens, geese, rabbits and ponies all benefited from their enthusiastic feeding. The yurt was a great balance of almost-camping but with more space and a few comforts (wood-burning stove, beds) that made all the difference on a first outing. We found great days out locally: Carsington Water, Thorpe Cloud and the stepping stones in Dovedale and the National Tram Museum. But there are many more for our next visit - when I am sure Peter and Beryl will again offer great hospitality and great advice.

Room Tip: Four yurts: Cowslip nearest to the farm house, Bluebell (sleeps 7/8 - others 4) and Foxglove in a ro...

Our family stayed in the Hayloft at the Farm last month. We had a wonderful time.Beryl and Peter were so kind and helpful .They could not have done more to make our stay enjoyable.
The accomodation is in a converted farm building which has been very well done. You are part of the Rarebreeds Farm and can see all the fascinating animals outside the windows and hear them call to each other and feed. Its such fun for children and adults alike.Peter said that once they saw the animals the children didnt want to leave. They love feeding the chickens rabbits and goats and others too numerous to mention ! We had a lovely time and we cant wait to return and spend more time with all the animals. The pigs are wonderful !

We booked last minute on a whim with Riddings Park Farm, for my husband and two children.
We're so glad we went here. The yurt was incredibly comfortable with everything you needed. We particularly liked the solar powered fairy lights that meant you were never in the dark when the sun set (you can turn them off if you like too). The log burner is cosy and the gas stove means you can cook even when the logburner is not burning. With a proper double bed, two single camp beds, a table and four chairs, you still don't feel the yurt to be overcrowded. And we were in the smaller yurt.
The children absolutely adored the place with so many animals to hang around with, watch, feed...we felt very happy to let them go off exploring.
Beryl and Peter are really great hosts, as in previous reviews I would say that you are not treated as a guest with money to spend but as a returning friend, their level of generosity and trust is brilliant. They obviously enjoy the animals and you can tell that Beryl in particular is really happy for the children to ask as much as they want and to be involved with the animals (and my children had endless questions....!).They have set up a great educational space with examples of different animal feeds and information about all the animals, rare breeds and other wildlife that you will find around the farm.
It is an early start, with the cockerels and can be cold unless your logburning skills mean your fire burns through the night, but the facilities are very clean and extensive and everything has been planned and built with real consideration and forethought.
We felt very relaxed there and really enjoyed our first yurt experience, much of this due to Beryl and Peter. Their belief in their project and obvious love of nature makes for a peaceful, interesting stay. Thank you.

From the moment we arrived we were truly made to feel welcome by beryl peter and marie and that is not forgetting the animals.
the accomodation is lovely and spacious, with the most delicious breakfast
the freedom you have to look around the farm and help as my kids did really makes you feel part of the team. can recommend ashbourne and buxton for a trip out
but ask jude in the morning for the best places to go to
we did alton towers water park and were a bit underwhelmed,to be honest more for littler kids
the chippy in ashboune market square was great and the georhe pub was a bit slow but very nice food (curry night tuesday)but...
THE CHEDDAR GORGE IN ASHBOURNE IS AMAZING!! PIES TO DIE FOR!!
all in all a fab time

Room Tip: the family room is more than adequate.it looks smaller than it is!

We are fortunate to have been to Ridding - great for kids!!. Peter & Beryll treat all visitor like members of the family. The kids loved looking at and learning about the rare breeds from the owners who are generous with their time and knowledge.
Sitting at the table in the kitchen overlooking the rolling hills with some of Beryll's fantastic food is a pure joy, pleasure and so relaxing.
Plenty of things to do nearby too. A great base from which to explore the Peak District.
No - I am not related to the owners, nor connected with their business in any way. We as a family return at least once (often more) a year.

My boyfriend and I wanted to do something a little different for our anniversary and decided a weekend in a yurt would do the trick. I found Riddings Park Farm on the internet and they had a yurt available at the fantastic rate of 60 pounds per night....a bargain! We arrived on the Friday and as soon as we rocked up, Beryl took us into Mrs B's T room for a cup of tea and a nice old chat. We were then allowed to wonder around the farm, looking at the ducks, goats, sheep, pigs. It was fabulous and allowed us to get really close to nature, which doesn't happen often as we live in London. We then went to our yurt, which had a big double bed, a wood burner, cooking faciilities, a table and solar lights. I loved it. There are shower blocks and toilets about twenty metres away and the yurts were clean and cosy. The breakfast the next morning consisted of bacon, sausages and eggs that were all produced on the farm - the bacon were sliced into gorgeous thick slices and tasted wonderful. Beryl allowed us to wonder around the farm and to feed the chickens and pigs at breakfast time. For children, this farm is a must - it allows you to get closer to nature and really see where our food comes from. The farm was secluded, but still only a few minutes walk from the pub, which served a wonderful fish and chips and was packed out on teh Friday night - so booking is a must. The yurts were fantastic and I didn't want to come home - even though the roosters were up at 0430, letting the world know it. However, you have to expect a rooster on a farm in the countryside and it just added to the experience. The staff on teh farm were also welcoming and friendly and even gave us a lift to the pub.
I really wish we could have stayed longer. I thought the facilities were excellent and there was always someone about if you needed them. Every yurt had it's own outside table and chairs and barbeque.
Thank you for making the first yurting experience such a good one!!

Also recommended is the Tissington Trail bike ride, where you can hire a bike from Ashbourne Cycle hire for 12.50p! Lovely views and a great day out.

Room Tip: One yurt is 20 feet in diameter and had more bed room....the others appeared to be the same size. A...
