“A wonderful 10 days away walking in the Peak District”

I booked a space for my caravan, myself and my dog. I was placed right by a water tap, which was great. The placing was also a comfortable distance from the bins/wastewater receptacle. All the staff were very polite and helpful; the facilities clean and tidy. The showers were lovely and warm. The onsite Cafe was always warm with peaceful background music. Evening restaurant served great food; definitely a good idea on a Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday evening. The onsite pub upstairs had a lovely stove burning away nicely the one evening we visited after a particularly wet day out walking; which was most welcome. Of specific note is that all reasonable areas were dog friendly; it was also good to see some areas that were set aside as dog free.

Room Tip: There are plenty of plots away from the bins/wastewater receptacles, there are also lots plots with...

My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the pods on the campsite as part of a wedding party in early September. Having read some of the negative reviews I was concerned about what sort of experience we would have. However. I can't fault the campsite or the pods at all. It was quiet, the toilets and showers were clean and only a very short walk from the pod. It's very dark at night, so bring a torch but the sky at night was beautiful - we could see the whole Milky Way!

We did have a small issue with the heater and light sockets cutting out in the pod but apparently this is due to the circuit tripping occasionally if it is overloaded.

Other than that we were very disappointed with the cooked breakfast in the Stable Cafe on Sunday morning which was undercooked and tasteless. If we come back we'd avoid going there but otherwise we had a fantastic time.

We stayed in the B&B accommodation at Rivendale and, especially after reading a lot of the TA reviews, were sceptical about it's 4* rating, but it really is excellent. The room was as lovely as you could wish for, good quality furnishings, a fabulous large bed, air con/heating which kept it as cool/warm as you wanted, a clean contemporary bathroom with a good shower. The bedding was white and fresh and the towels good quality, thick and fluffy.
I have given the overall mark as 4 rather than 5 only because it wasn't absolutely perfect; there is a slight issue with noise from the front door, stairway and other guests' doors. I'm not sure what you could do about it, but with solid floors it's a bit echo-ey and secure door clicks very loudly and the fire doors are prone to make quite a noise as they shut. Also whilst the breakfast was very good on the first day, it was all a bit undercooked on the second.
We had friends staying in tents and caravans at Rivendale for the weekend and, as we are not campers, being able to go along and stay in a B&B room was fabulous.

We booked Rivendale for a week in September after looking at the campsite online. We are are young(ish) couple (late twenties) with no children or dogs and were looking for a campsite that had clean and reliable facilities, good size pitches and good access to local attractions and points of interest. We booked for an electric hook up and so this review only refers to our experience of staying on a grass pitch with electricity (note that we can’t provide feedback regarding staying in the meadow camping field or in the pods).

Rivendale is a lovely looking site and appears well maintained. Our pitch was flat and spacious and the weather had been kind so the ground was dry when we arrived to pitch the tent. The facilities were very good. They are kept warm and clean and the water was lovely and hot everyday. As others have mentioned, it was a couple of minutes walk from our pitch to the facilities which wasn’t too much of an issue. The walk is on a gravel road which was helpful in the rain as it didn’t get muddy. As with most campsites we have stayed in there is no lighting at night around the site. This allows for some outstanding views of the night sky. Bollards do come up in the road in the evening restricting access to the campsite. There was one night we arrived back late and couldn’t get the car through. However, the campsite car park is always available and so we parked there returning to the car in the morning (the car was about a minute’s walk from our tent so not too far at all).

The camp site is off a main road so you can hear some cars passing from time to time but we didn’t find this disturbing. There is some infrequent air traffic noise in the late evening but we take ear plugs camping anyway to ensure a good night’s sleep regardless of any noisy neighbours. The proximity to the main road allows for easy access to Ashbourne and Buxton which are both well worth a visit. Just up from the campsite, across the road, there is easy access to the tissington trail and there are some good walks direct from the site.

We did not visit the pub on site but we had breakfast in the cafe on our last morning and it was very good. The waiting staff were doing a very good job seeing to a large number of customers. Food was served promptly and hit the spot nicely. The camp shop looked well stocked with all the basics.

We had a very enjoyable time at Rivendale and the campsite met all of our needs. In our opinion it is a very good campsite and excellent value for money. We look forward to returning to it in the future.

Stayed here for two nights a few months ago and we were very disappointed with the site. The location is lovely but site leaves a lot to be desired! The car park was really far away from any available camping spots and usually full which meant a huge walk with all equipment and a long way back each time to the toilets. Toilets and showers are unisex!!! In the interests of safeguarding children on the site I am astonished that the site have facilities such as this! The cafe was shocking! We were only given the option of a bacon or sausage sandwich. The drinks were forgotten about ( waited 20 mins for tea!) and then sandwiches were just greasy bacon in two basic white bread slices and only lukewarm. Staff didn't seem particularly interested in good customer service! A real shame as it is a beautiful site. Would not go back though, sadly.

Unfortunately, the waiting on staff & chef did not perform to our expectations during the early season and were recently replaced by a new head chef, motivated waiting on staff and a more varied and interesting menu that has prompted positive comments by our guests.
The Camping meadow is for guests who want a traditional camp fire in a fire pit and to pitch where they please. Carts & wheelbarrows are now provided (since your stay) to help guests move their camping gear.
Unisex toilets and showers are common in many modern toilets & showers at aquapark & swimming pool complexes (e.g splash Landings at Alton Towers) because single adults with young children of the opposite sex can accompany them into the toilets without issues. Otherwise, mum is faced with bringing her young son into the ladies - or sending him into the gents on his own. Recent news head lines suggest the latter is not always a great idea, so I suggest, children are actually far safer accompanied by their parents in a unisex facility.

Booked the site in Feb 13 for thirty guests along with a buffett and disco for Sept 13.
I must say contact by email was not very good with weeks going by before replies. However, when calling they were spot on. Answering all questions and actioning any requests promptly.

When we arrived everything was in hand, they had planned an alternative for us for the ceremony if the weather turned bad.

The wedding day went without a hitch. The staff were amazing. Helpful, polite and bent over backward to make the day go so well.

The site is very clean. The shower blocks are fantastic and well maintained.

The buffet was superb. Poached salmon, ham joints and a wonderful selection of salads!

I would thoroughly recommend booking here

Having reviewed a few camping spots in the area we chose this one due to it's previous reviews, positive write up in a caravan magazine and the LOTR reference. We were disappointed.
The pitch we were given had a 4ft muddy puddle in it, with other campers children decided to play in rather than the play area, obviously had no respect for others space.
The shower block had no hot water for 2 and a half days. We couldn't wait to leave!
The restrictions on times getting in and out the campsite was ridiculous 10pm-9am. We were unable to leave early for our walks and activities and had to keep clock watching to make sure we were back before curfew.
We went to eat in the prancing pony and didn't even order a drink. There seemed to be no menus, hot food servers were on the stairs and the staff didn't seem to want to help. We ate at a lovely pub in Fanny Bentley.

Thank you for your review. The security bollards are sited so that most cars (including our pick up & landrovers) can drive between them, whilst caravans cannot - to prevent caravan theft, but allow most cars to come and go as they wish. There is always the option of leaving the car in the visitors car park and walking up to your pitch if you are not confident of negotiating the bollards.
Unfortunately, if even a grass-friendly groundsheet has been on a pitch for a fortnight, it will kill the grass - add rain and you have mud. If guests let us know there is a problem we have groundsheets we will provide to prevent yours getting muddy or offer you an alternative pitch if one is available.
With regard to the hot water, we had an intermittent problem leading to the failure of a 500 litre hot water cylinder in early August. I rang around every Gledhill depot in the UK to find a replacement, drove a 260 mile round trip to collect it, and it was fitted in 4 hours. It is certainly not the case that the toilet building was without hot water for 2 1/2 days - although we extend our sincere apologies to any guests who were inconvenienced whilst it was being diagnosed and replaced. The other two toilet blocks were unaffected.
