“An excellent, peaceful site”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

Just back from a lovely weekend at this site, the weather helped in being better than advertised but the site was very nice. The indoor heated pool was made good use of and the wardens were particularly helpful - especially Mark & Nicky and I think it was Jenny from somewhere a very long way away, NZ I think.

We were in a group of seven sets of like-minded folk, all pitched together which was very handy.

Facilities were good, lots of piping hot water, good showers & washing facilities, well-stocked shop etc. Can't fault it at all.

We'll be back!

Spent a lovely weekend on this site back in June. Two adults, two boys and our dog. Speedy check in at reception and staff friendly. We were given pitch 23 and it was a great spot-adjacent to the children's play area, swings slides & climbing frames for young & older children.

All the facilities where in easy reach from our pitch so will definitely be asking for same pitch again. The ground is not quite level but all in all didn't cause us a problem with our tent but did with our side extension but we just did the best we could. Shower facilities were very clean but are in need of a refurb, and one shower for such a big site is sure to cause problems during school holidays.

The little shop was reasonably priced and handy for morning newspapers but would have preferred it to open earlier than 9am. Pot washing facilities located in a little room which is great when raining also facility for refreezing your ice blocks.

Pool was small but clean not too happy about having to pay extra for this- we paid £34 p/night so think this should include all facilities.

Dog walk was ok- not big enough and very muddy, but was told that this is going to be improved very soon.

The Bentley Brook pub is a 15min walk and allows dogs in the pub upto 8pm, food was ok also children's play area and field to play football. Will go again.

Ashbourne is only a 3 mile from site.

The Rally room was also handy, wood burning stove nice table/chairs for playing board games or just relaxing with a book.

All in all we will be visiting this site again we had a lovely time and the site is nice even liked the hanging baskets & planters- nice little touches. Marks out of 10. 8.

We visited Ashbourne Heights earlier this year and had a brilliant weekend.. so much we planned a return visit with friends (3 pitches, 9 adults, 1 child, 2 infants and 2 dogs). despite spending a lot of time during booking going through how the pitches would work, when we arrived to check in, the tags that they insisted must be correct did not match the paperwork that they were attached to e.g. the number of adults and children to tents didn't correspond however this something that they had written not us. so check in took 30 minutes and they insisted we owed more money .... They were however helpful in letting us pitch in the Peak Park so we had more space and could arrange the tents as we wanted and so we could play games.
The facilities are still good, childrens play area was good for all ages, the swimming pool wasn't as warm as I remember as the little ones soon got cold. The do state that you have to book so that no more than 25 people are in the pool, this didn't seem the case when we went in and the changing room was a cramped, I don't recall this from last time....
we were still setting up the tents when a man with a large Alsatian, who unsettled our dogs and upset the children started shouting about the red tags some distance from where we were, to the point that in caused confusion. In setting up, and due to arriving at different times we hadn't yet put the tags, surely we wont be the only people to have ever done this but the attitude of this man was completely uncalled for, he was rude and unpleasant. Most of us work within the public sector teachers, nurses, civil servants and could not believe his lack of customer service skills. He then wasn't happy that the red tags had been scribbled on, due to the fact that reception had made mistakes on our pitch set up. We were later told that this man was the manager ...... unbelievable ..........
On our second night we had settled for a BBQ and once finished cooking put a few logs on the BBQ, again the man with the dog appeared from nowhere and advised us that we couldnt burn the logs, which was fine we said we would let thess ones burn out but not put anymore on, he said he want us to throw away all the logs that we had brought and that we had as he was uncomfortable that we had them and couldnt trust us, we said we wouldn't be throwing them away as we all have log burners and he said he wasn't happy with that (in not so pleasant terms), the children were still up with us at this time. When one of the party went to the toilet block another group of tents had an open fire and didn't seem to be letting theirs burn down like we were ours. On hour or so later the man returned from behind the cars, making us jump with his dog, yet again unsettling our dogs, he doesn't have a torch and despite telling him we would let the logs burn down that were already on the fire we still had to re-go over the previous conversations. For a manager this mans attitude was hideous, he was sneaky, treated us like children and hid in the shadows around our tents/cars, we did wonder if he was treating others like this. Whilst he didn't ruin our weekend he did put a dampener on the evenings .....
The campsites in a brilliant location, waling distance to Tissington Trail, Tissington Hall and close to other amenities but this change in management would make me think about re-booking, as he seriously looked to be victimising our group .... such a shame

I stayed with my son inlaw and two grandsons for a night over the bank holiday. The park is kept very clean and is laid out well. Tissington trail is very close for a walk or bike ride and a nice little play area for the kids. The pool is nice and has to be booked to prevent it getting packed but was surprised you have to pay extra to use it. It would benefit more I think if it had a restaurant and a bar to prevent having to drive

My parents have had a pitch on this site with their touring caravan for the last 4 years. We usually visit for a 2 night break a few times a year but this has been our first visit in 2013 with our toddler daughter.

Pleased to see how well maintained the grounds are, with how busy the site was with campers and tourers on august bank holiday. Sandpit addition to the park was very well received by our daughter and saw a warden cleaning it out at 8am!

A fish and chip van from an outside company was popular with a long queue on the saturday night. Shame there are no other options to purchase food, in the past seen a small take away and a breakfast bar but the cabin is not being used.

Can i suggest better waste management and recycling? Lots of cans and bottles put in general waste with the amount that was being consumed on the site over the bank holiday.

Toilet block at bottom of the avenue, seasonal tourers and statics needs updating.
Im sure they would be signing up for another season

After spending many weeks here in the past I have been pleasantly surprised. The once cold, red hot do as you likey push button showers are no more, they have been replaced by new showers and now what were hard getting into are now hard to get out of. The wardens on site are now on top of their game cutting the grass and trimming hedgerows. We have been with a group of scouts for a week and even they are showering (unheard of). The pool is a welcome diversion and the proximity to some excellent hiking locations is first class. The site overall is well maintained and the staff friendly and approachable. Well done to all for the showers been a long time coming. Oh yes and thanks for giving us clean scouts to send home for a change

We stayed here for a 2 night weekend break. We have two young children aged 7 & 4. The site is just lovely, very well maintained & nice & clean facilities. The children loved the play area and indoor swimming pool was nicely kept and a warm temperature. A lovely location and we were very impressed with the site. It is closely watched by a patrol on the evening but we found this to be a comfort as at least you know there is somebody keeping an eye on things. Will visit again.
