We came here for a family christmas lunch on a mid-December sunday. It was quite quiet with only one or two other parties there. The service was excellent both at the bar and with a very informative and friendly waitress. It has a cosy atmosphere, the decor is great, very old English pub with an interesting twist...we were seated at a table hanging from the ceiling on large chains next to a lovely open fire. Beside us a table was mounted upside down to make a chandelier! They had also certainly gone to town with the christmas decorations, it felt like a santa's grotto! We were 3 vegetarians, 1 vegan and 2 two meat eaters and all thoroughly enjoyed our dishes. We had a delicious vegetable wellington, a couple of tasty veggie 'bubble and squeak' dishes, a wild mushroom stroganoff, a spicy dhansak and a belly of pork. The food was hot, tasty and good size portions. Wish we'd had room for dessert. Wouldn't hesistate to come here again, looking forward to visit in the new year! Thoroughly recommended!

We've lunched here twice recently. I've also been a few times before, over the years.

Food has always been nicely done and plentiful.

The pub has atmosphere "in spades" and is an ideal place to take foreign visitors who want their idea of how English pubs look confirmed. Hopefully, the good food might also go some way to improving our reputation for cuisine...

Having used this place before i was so disappointed with quite a few things, to start they had no cider on tap on this occasion. i went for the mussels to start, my god they were dreadful, tiny little things, the actual mussel meat was no bigger than broad bean and dry and shriveled. to follow my main course was fillet steak wrapped in bacon, that arrived on a cold plate and was over seasoned, The glass of wine my wife was given to compensate my for poor starter had some kind of sediment at the bottom of the glass, at what point we finished our meal paid at the bar and left,
from start to finish 50 minutes , never again!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were invited to dinner at this pub by some friends who have come here a few times now. They kept saying how great the food & atmosphere is - & they weren't wrong. The food was amazing, well presented with large portion sizes. There was also quite a selection of vegetarian options. Service was good & prompt .
The general atmosphere was great, & very notable as soon as you walk in - lots of wooden tables & decor including a hanging table from the ceiling. It was also very busy!

We have been going to this pub / restaurant for many years now and it never fails to impress us. As soon as you walk in you get the warm welcome feeling of how a British pub should be. The food and service is always top class and you can see they always ensure the staff are friendly and also importantly knowledgeable about the food and drinks on service.

It is a little pricier than you average pub but certainly worth it! If I won the lottery I would dine there every week.

Highly recommend this pub and nothing beats on a winters evening travelling out to the scenic country side to sit down to hearty great food!!
