We stumbled upon Villa Tropical quite by chance, and now go back every year, lured by the natural beauty of the landscape, glorious accommodations, and a welcoming host family living nearby. From the house rooftop we watch the sun come up, and at the end of day flocks of pelicans fly across the Pacific on their way home to roost, as the sun sets. The house is spectacularly beautiful and comfortable, with an infinity pool overlooking the ocean. In the low-key village, visitors can stroll amongst the locals or relax on the beach, enjoy a seafood meal, swim in the calm bay, or nap in a hammock. Villa Tropical has room for a getaway group of family or friends, and offers a peaceful retreat for reading or ocean gazing.

Room Tip: No two rooms share a wall, so there is alot of privacy, though two of the rooms have Pacific ocean views.

This is IT! I cannot stress enough what a hidden gem Villa Tropical is. Once inside the walled parking area you are in your own world with beautifully planted and maintained gardens and house. The pool is always crystal clean! and the views are spectacular. Whale watching from the deck! I have stayed a number of times and ALWAYS enjoyed myself immensely. I have come with various groups of friends or family and have found that there is something for everyone. For those who like to get up early and walk to the little fishing cove to see the fishermen bringing in the catch of the day (and maybe even buy a red snapper for dinner) it is easy to do. For those whose idea of the perfect vacation is to lay in a hammock and read and be waited on.. John can make that happen. Dinners and daily cleaning can all be arranged. John the owner knows everything there is to know about the area.. GREAT surfing... excellent deep sea fishing during the right season. Caleta de Campos is off the beaten path. The Michoacan coast is a vanishing paradise. Think Oregon Coast if it were tropica. If you like the real thing... this is for you.

Written by a repeat visitor with high standards when it come to the "vacation experience"!

Villa Tropical is a 3 story architectural masterpiece situated in just the right location to command privacy, security and a panoramic ocean view. Style is authentic, clean and well appointed. The extensive grounds have been landscaped with specimen quality botanicals which are kept exquisitely manicured. Amenities for relaxation and entertaining range from children's jungle gym to swimming pool with underwater connection to an interior grotto. The kitchen is fully equipped to handle large groups and has a pass through to an outdoor dining area featuring gas BBQ and extensive seating.
Interior decor is a mix of unique high quality furnishings, paintings and artifacts that are true to the character of this beautiful coastal region of Michoacan. Guest rooms are comfortably furnished and all have fans as well as screened windows that allow for cool ocean breezes. There are several outdoor patios with hammocks that are shaded by traditional palapa style structures.
Owners live next door, speak English and Spanish, and are well qualified to arrange activities or meal preparation/housekeeping as desired.

You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

Room Tip: We always rent the entire villa. If I was just renting a single room, the large master bedroom/private bathroom on the southwest side of second story is primo. Sliding glass door opens to patio which also has access to third story patio with panoramic views.

What strikes me most at the villa is the beauty and quiet of the place.
Silence is why I love it so. I could do my Yoga on the terrace in the warm sun, or by the pool in the shade. To rent the whole villa makes a great sense for a yoga retreat!
I could chose one of three terraces and have amazing vistas to paint. A painting or sketching class here would be a delight! The villa also makes an exceptionally romantic setting for a wedding or other family event, because of the privacy it gives in an elegant setting. I am sure to return there is so much to discover here.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are lovely. Choose according to the size of your party.

I flew in from Lazaro Cardenas which is about an hour's drive from CaletaDeCampos. Arriving at Villa Tropical I was pleasantly surprised to have a huge bedroom with great ocean views. The villa is very high quality accommodation - extremely spacious & luxurious. You can swim from the living room to the outside swimming pool....

CaletaDeCampos is a charming small mexican town and there are a number of restaurants and grocery stores so easy to get most supplies. Luckily I stayed in January which I understand is the best fishing season and the owner of the villa (Juan) is a keen fisherman who regularly offered us catch of the day served Ceviche style. Delicious. I went fishing with the Juan a few times and was lucky enough to catch great fish every time. Juan is incredibly generous when fishing - if he catches one on his rod he past it to me. Juan claimed to be an expert fisherman and judging by the results, I would have to agree with him.

The main reason I was visiting this area was to surf Nexpa which is a 10 minute drive from Villa Tropical. There was surf every day during the 3 weeks I stayed and it is a very long fun wave. The weather was perfect - hot & sunny every day. I guess day time temperatures were around 80F.

Highlights of the trip were doing Tow in Surfing with Juan, eating fresh seafood every day, some great surfing sessions at Nexpa, catching the biggest fish of my life.

Negatives? I just loved the place and had the best holiday of my life so will definately be coming back next year.
