“Affable host and relaxed atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2014

My friend and I stayed at the MacLeod Inn last Fall while we were out for the Celtic Colours Festival; I chose MacLeod Inn because I am a West coast MacLeod and felt a chat with an East coast cousin was in order. The Inn itself has a lovely setting facing West from a hilltop, and the house is rambling, open and very comfortable. Alistair is my favourite kind of host: relaxed, unpretentious & gracious and he puts on a very substantial breakfast. The kitchen is open and we were able to make a cup of coffee or tea whenever we wanted. Other guests were lounging in the sitting room having a glass of wine when we checked in and there was lots of conversation going on which made us feel comfortable immediately. Our room was attractive and spotless and very quiet. It was a quick drive into Inverness and it is a fabulous drive along Shore Rd to Margaree Harbour. All in all we had a fine time on Cape Breton Island, which has to be one of the most interesting and beautiful places in North America. The music too was outstanding!!

A lovely old house a couple of kilometers from Cabot Links, which was the reason for our visit. Rooms are large and nicely decorated. Breakfast was very good. Host Alistair is very knowledgeable about golf. Excellent value.

We stayed here for two nights, while we golfed and explored the Inverness area. The home is tucked away just off the 'beaten path' and we were very satisfied with the size of the room, which was on the main floor and had a beautiful large window. The staff are warm and friendly and very eager to ensure we were well looked after. Breakfast choices are multiple and one certainly leaves with a nice full stomach. Definitely a place we would stay at again next time we travel to Cape Breton.

A comfortable room is to be had at the MacLeod Inn and its location is convenient to the Cabot Trail. The bed was super comfortable and the evening was very quiet given the location just off the highway outside of Inverness, NS.

We enjoyed a nice breakfast cooked by the owner and lots of good conversation.

Inverness has a great little pub for dinner and the sunset on the beach was stunning.

The inn staff were helpful and easy to talk to.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an en suite.

Well of all the places I stayed in Nova Scotia, I would not say this was very welcoming. The young lady in the evening was a bit more attentative then the one in the morning. There was no one to recommend a place to eat for dinner or to offer other recommendations. If you are looking for a B&B experience it's not quite that but my room, the gillis room, was certainly lovely and spacious as well as the nice size bathroom with great big tub and soft fluffy towels. Just make sure you close the bathroom door when taking a shower -- the steam set off the smoke alarm! The home is lovely and nice stay at beginning or end of the Cabot Trail.

This is is 3-4 star B&B about 3-4 km north of Inverness. We had a large room with en suite bath that included large whirlpool tub. The room is very generous in size, and Alistar the host is very pleasant. Breakfast food was good with plenty of coffee, but maybe not quite as good as some others, but there was cereal, eggs, yogurt, fruit, breads, all serve yourself. It rates 5 for value, and 3-4 for the rest. Very close to Cabot Links for golf and Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Will stay again if I'm lucky enough to go back to Cabot Links.

Room Tip: Get the Maclellan room for the space

Loved the inn. Large comfortable well appointed room with comfortable couch and chair. Good tv and internet reception. Nice poster bed. Large bath with double sinks. The breakfasts were good. Only criticism is 15/the towels were a little thin and the bed a little in the soft side but that is a matter of taste. Overall it's a great place to stay close to the Cabot Trail. Definitely recommend it.
