My friend and I stayed at the MacLeod Inn last Fall while we were out for the Celtic Colours Festival; I chose MacLeod Inn because I am a West coast MacLeod and felt a chat with an East coast cousin was in order. The Inn itself has a lovely setting facing West from a hilltop, and the house is rambling, open and very comfortable. Alistair is my favourite kind of host: relaxed, unpretentious & gracious and he puts on a very substantial breakfast. The kitchen is open and we were able to make a cup of coffee or tea whenever we wanted. Other guests were lounging in the sitting room having a glass of wine when we checked in and there was lots of conversation going on which made us feel comfortable immediately. Our room was attractive and spotless and very quiet. It was a quick drive into Inverness and it is a fabulous drive along Shore Rd to Margaree Harbour. All in all we had a fine time on Cape Breton Island, which has to be one of the most interesting and beautiful places in North America. The music too was outstanding!!
