We were travelling with another couple and booked an apartment for 4 adults. The apartments are about 500m walk (but much longer route by car) from the main hotel, but it was ok. The apartment was all we needed, kitchen with equipments for 6, sauna, comfortable beds, nice livingroom to spend the evening. Breakfast was included and was served at the main hotel, and the quality of breakfast was good. The guy at the reception was nice and helpful (we arrived a day earlier than planned, and he gave us the apartment on the same price as the original booking = 104e).

The location of the hotel is ideal - in the centre of Ruka, with lot of services around. In winter the ski slopes are just next to the hotel, and in summer the hotel is at the southern end of the Karhunkierros trail. We took the trail and after four days of walking in the woods Rukahovi was an ideal place to "return to the civilization".

The high season in Ruka is in winter, so in summer the prices were surprisingly low. The room was big with a balcony and had a really nice view to the lowlands around (remember to ask for the view). The newer part of the hotel was modern and comfy, and the breakfast was quite nice, too. Airport taxi has a stop in front of the hotel, too. Friendly staff.

Nothing really to complain... few small blood stains around the room, probably due to squished mosquitoes...

Choose this one in summer, and in winter too, if you can afford it...

I stayed here for a week in mid March as a lone traveller as part of a business trip to the conference centre.

As an independent traveller this was an ideal location, only a short bus ride from Kuusamo airport costing €10 stopping right at the front door. The hotel is right in the centre of Ruka surrounded by a number of restaurants and bars. The hotel comprises two wings – the main building and an annexe, which I understand houses the standard rooms. Reception and bar area are in the alpine style with a relaxed atmosphere and welcoming staff. I found the superior rooms in the main building to be roomy, clean and warm with good lighting and a spacious bathroom with shower (only) and airing cupboard for damp clothing which worked very well. All the usual equipment, TV, phone etc., except tea and coffee making facilities absent. I would say it these rooms justify 4 star as opposed to some other postings about the standard rooms.

The only complaint I had was that at 3.30am on the second night, the bar next door closed to a chorus of shouting, singing and general drunkenness, great if you’re part of it, but not if trying to sleep. No problem though, next morning the reception staff moved me to the piste side of the building and all was good.

A few pointers. Request superior room on piste side. Finland is very expensive with an average £5 bottle of wine costing €40 in a restaurant. Go to the Alko shop (2 mins away) and get the same one for €10 to drink in the room or sneak a glass into the bar. The restaurant food at the hotel is OK, but like many hotels, only just ok and pricey. Nearby restaurants are better quality with a pizza about €14 and steak about €30. Coffee is cheap though at €2 just about everywhere! The hotel has a free ski locker room so you don’t need to pay the €6 per day to hire a locker.

If skiing, good for beginners but in my view the reds here are only just challenging blues and there are only a couple of blacks. Overall, this compact resort is pretty good with plenty of lifts and well maintained piste and appears to be popular with families.
A good eight out of ten.

Room Tip: Piste side is quieter, superior rooms are in the main building, avoid being in the annexe if budget...

We found that the hotel was nicer than we expected as the pictures we looked at in the brochure didn't do it justice. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. As mentioned in previous posts finding your room can be a bit of a maze. The room and bathroom were small but we found them adequate and the whole hotel was very clean (we were staying in the older rooms). But we had the most amazing view from the room. There are not any tea/coffee making facilities in the room so bring a travel kettle. Breakfast was good with a choice of breads, toast, eggs, sausages, meatballs, sliced meats and cheese, fish, yoghurt, cereals, jams and tea/coffee and juices. For dinner there was a choice of salads and fresh bread with a choice of two mains usually a meat or fish dish. We are vegetarian and given a lovely meal every night but you may struggle if you don't like cheese or roasted vegetables. Followed by a small dessert, usually ice-cream. Could be a bit repetitive if there for more than a week. You could ski from the door and the ski school meeting place was just around the corner so very convenient. The hotel is situated in the Ruka village which is very compact and has a few shops, restaurants, a supermarket and bars. We would recommend half board as prices are high. We would highly recommend this hotel!

This is a new Hotel in the Crystal brochure. We booked the first week in January which was pretty busy. Our allotted room was in the old part of the hotel, a route march away from reception requiring the negotiation of a number of flights of stairs so we asked to upgrade. We were offered room 213 which had a slightly restricted view of the slopes but nevertheless a view. The room was excellent, very spacious with a great bathroom and shower. Although we had to pay e20 per night for the privilege it was, in our view well worth it. The breakfast was taken in the restaurant adjacent to the reception but the evening meals had to be taken in the old part on the 3rd floor. It did have good views of the slopes though. Breakfast was excellent but the evening meal lacked variety and could have been hotter. Overall I would recommend the Rukahovi Hotel for it's ski-in, ski-out position, it's very helpful staff, it's cleanliness and excellent rooms in the newer part.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the newer part.
