“wonderful B&B”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

Beautiful location, charming hostess and excellent food, which catered so well to my vegan husband. We enjoyed the room overlooking the river Avon and stayed for 2 nights. Our hostess recommended that we do a circular walk of about 12kms to Stone Henge and back rather than join the queues of cars and buses. This was a wonderful suggestion. The walking was easy and took us via other significant sites: Durrington Walls, Wood Henge and many ancient burial sites. It was fabulous to approach Stone Henge through farmers' fields, quietly and peacefully, away from all the traffic.

Room Tip: Opt for the room overlooking the river.

All I can say is, stay here! Your hostess is going to be one of the most lovely people you will ever meet. You will be spoiled rotten at breakfast. And for the love of everything holy say YES when you are offered the slice of cake on arrival. I have never tasted anything so lovely. We were lucky enough to stay in the room over looking the river Avon and it was just so beautiful. Seeing the helicopters way off in the distance just added to the fantastic stay. Everything is so clean, the beds are sublime. The bath is deep and hot and heaven for legs that have been abused hiking all over London and Paris the 5 days before. Just lovely. Stay here. You will not regret it.

Room Tip: Most certainly stay in the room over looking the river, it is quite remarkable

My mother-in-law and I stayed here for 3 nights, Feb 21 - 24 2013. This lovely bungalow has 2 rooms one which has a view over the river Avon which runs along the bottom of the garden and the other to the front of the accommodation (our room) which was lovely and quiet as road at the front is a cul-de-sac and not much traffic at all more people out walking with their dogs, as there are lovely walks all around.
On arriving at 7pm Gail helped us in with our luggage then went off to make us a warm drink and provided lovely homemade cake which after our 4hr journey was very welcome.
Our room was beautiful with fabulous decoration (which is the same throughout this accommodation), our beds were so comfortable with lovely clean bedding and the en-suite bathroom has a lovely big bath or there is an overhead power shower, heated towel rail, toiletries and bathrobes provided. Your room really does have everything but if you did think of anything Gail was on hand to ask, a very attentive host.
The breakfast room has the river Avon running along the bottom of the garden, it was lovely to see the swans & ducks swimming by whilst enjoying breakfast which was delicious especially the cooked breakfast and whether you had fried or scrambled eggs you could instantly tell they were freshly laid eggs the taste was superb. You are able to use this room up till 9pm in the evening should you want to bring in your own takeaway to eat rather than going out, there are plates, cutlery and glasses provided so you can even enjoy a drink with your meal, so although you are not able to eat hot food in your room this is a great alternative, you can even relax on the sofa afterwards before retiring to watch TV in your room, were you have your Tea/Coffee making facilities(Gail also provides fresh milk daily), there are wine glasses and corkscrew/bottle opener provided, you can also borrow plates from the breakfast room if you want eat anything other than hot food in your room.
If you are using this B & B as a base for sightseeing you have Stonehenge only 10 minutes away and the drive through the Woodford valley into Salisbury (approx 15-20 mins) is beautiful with plenty of places to eat at lunch or in the evening with lovely settings all around. You also have numerous other places of interest to visit and see all within an hours commute and there are lots of lovely little villages all around Durrington so you really are spoilt for choice if you want to eat out in the evening.
There is a very good bus service which goes via Durrington so if you didn't want to be driving during the day or when going out in the evening problem solved. I'm sure Gail would be able to provide you with a timetable/timings especially if you asked when making your reservation.
Although Durrington is a busy village the roads are fine as long as you drive with care and remember you are in a village, there are various amenities including a Tesco metro/Spar/Fish & Chip shop/Takeaways/hairdressers and garage and if you need one a library and a church.
Gail really is a lovely, friendly host and when your stay comes to leaving you'll be disappointed because you just want to stay forever, it's a B & B you'll want to return to time and time again. Everything you read on the homepage when looking for a place to stay is true, it's really is your little bit of heaven for as long as you need.

Room Tip: If you are lucky enough to get the river view room fantastic but you honestly wouldn't be disapp...

We stayed here 2 evenings, Mar 29 and 30, 2013. There are only 2 rooms, one a king size bed with view of the river, and a nice ensuite bath, and one with a hot tub, but unsure if there is a view of the river. We stayed in the one with a view. B&B is truly a private home, but they did a good job of seperating their space from the quest space. Decor is fabulous. Sheets excellent. Very very clean. The breakfast was excellent, the scrambled eggs were ok.
At sunset, both evenings, I lay in bed, and watched the sunset over the little river, and was wowed by the calm and beauty.
I would suggest this as a couples get away.
The breakfast room was what appeared to be a smaller office/bedroom, that had been fixed up with 2 small dining tables, cafe style. Service was very kind and attentive. We were asked not to eat hot foods in our room, so if we got any take-away for lunch or dinner, we should use the little breakfast room. This was very easy to do, given the clever way they have arranged things, and was very private, and also had a nice view of the river.
Absolutely fabulous commute to Stonehenge, better than any place in Salisbury.

The only 2 drawbacks, were not the fault of the B&B. One is that currently in the little village of Durrington, there are no pubs or restaurants. There is a small co-op grocer. You have to drive to another town to obtain lunch or dinner. However, if you use the B&B as a base, chances are you will be somewhere else for lunch and dinner anyways.
Second is that the tiny roads leading in and out of Durrington, can be very narrow, due to people parking along the already narrow streets, and this is per no parking is provided with older or newer homes. You will encounter that with any small town in England, so if possible, have a local drive you, and just shut your eyes until you arrive.

This is an idyllic place, and I want to live there forever.

Thank you for your review. We are so pleased that guests continue to enjoy staying with us, enjoying our unique home and the beauty of the surroundings; we greatly appreciate our very complimentary rating(s). We are though, perplexed by this assessment of Durrington’s facilities. As far as catering is concerned, we do in fact have a Pub (which we will be honest and say does need refurbishment), but we also have an eat-in Indian restaurant, a Fish and Chip restaurant, a cafe, 3 takeaway food shops and 3 well-stocked, local style supermarkets all within walking distance. We should mention though that most of our guests do like to treat themselves when eating out during their stay so we also provide a coded dining guide for outside of the village and local map in our guest information folder. Our village also has an Indoor Swimming Pool, Tennis Courts, Gymnasium, several Hairdressers, a Fishing Lake, Garage, a Norman era Church, Newsagent etc; in fact Durrington has far more facilities than most other local English village B&B’s and is minutes from the worlds most iconic historical monument …yes parking here can get a little eccentric when the schools turn out but it is hardly an issue. We all try hard try please!

Willow Springs sounds idyllic and it certainly is! I was on a business trip and wanted to find a place that was peaceful and professional. Not only did I find that, but also a warm welcome which included tea and cake served to my room personally. Gail and Graham took the time to welcome me and have a conversation which I really appreciated having travelled to many places where you are just a name and room number.
The room was very comfortable and spotless. However, it was the breakfast in the morning where you get to eat in a room with a view! A view of the river that changes as the light brightens, filing you with peace as your stomach is filled with good home made food.
I not only recommend a visit, but look forward to my next!

I'm afraid I can only add another to the reviewers marking as 'excellent'. A lovely spot, lovely room, spotlessly clean, super breakfasts, well organised, quiet. I have travelled a lot over the last 10 years and if you want literally a guest house - being a guest in a nice comfy house, yet the privacy of your own little suite, this is it.

Room Tip: Both rooms good
