The Wild Fennel is located in the centre of Mayne Island, in a wee development of a few shops. The restaurant has some pretty wild/quirky/interesting/cool/odd original art on the walls, created by one of the co-owners. The artist served us, and he certainly didn't lack for personality! Lots of fun.
Other than the art, the space doesn't have a ton of ambiance. The menu selections sound good, but their execution was a bit off the mark. For example, the shrimp bisque was more like a hearty bowl of tomato herb soup, rather than the delicate creamy soup you'd expect. The herb-crusted salmon burger was lacking in flavour, and the berry 'aioli' and iceberg lettuce didn't help. My husband loved his smoked tuna burger though.
Good beer on tap. Nice place, but if you want fine dining on Mayne, this isn't it (instead, head to the Oceanwood Resort's restaurant!).
