This restaurant is part of the Oceanwood Resort (http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Review-g183806-d185448-Reviews-Oceanwood_Resort-Mayne_Island_British_Columbia.html) on Mayne. Scott & Colleen run the resort, and Colleen is the chef at the restaurant. I'm not sure how they manage to do it all - but they do, and very well!
The restaurant is a cozy space which would seat perhaps 50 diners. Candles everywhere, fireplace, bar, and french doors which open onto the most gorgeous view when the weather is warm. We stayed in the resort, so our trip to the restaurant was most convenient! The menu has about five entrees, at least a few of which change each night.
Diners are served some form of a complimentary pre-dinner snackie. One night we had focaccia and balsamic/olive oil; another night we had spiced chickpeas. The wine list offers something for everyone. And the food - sublime. My husband had the beef tenderloin and pronounced it pretty much THE BEST tenderloin he'd ever had; it was accompanied by perfectly cooked, tasty assorted vegetables and mashed potatoes. I had the miso salmon and it was amazing. Another night, my husband had the macadamia nut-crusted salmon and thought it was fabulous; we later mentioned it to Colleen and she said it was the first time she'd made it, because Scott had wanted some kind of a nut-crusted entree!
Truly a hidden gem, and in the words of another reviewer, 'the only fine dining on Mayne'. Lovely.
