We stayed at the Waring House for a weekend in June 2009, our second visit. We looked at the rooms in the new buildings, which are lovely, but decided to stay in our reserved room in the house next door, Room 11. The room was a little crowded in that we had two queen beds, and only needed one, but we also had a hot tub on the deck outside the room, very romantic. We ate in the Barley Room pub and also at Amelia's. The inn was packed since there was a wedding on site on the Saturday, but despite catering to a full dining room and a wedding party the food in Amelia's was excellent and the service attentive. All the staff were friendly and the inn is a very relaxed place. The rooms in the house next door can seem a little musty on arrival (it is an old cottage), but once the windows are open its fine, the bed is very comfy and the bathroom ok, so don;t expect a spa style bathroom.
The only drawback is there seems to be more traffic these days in Prince Edward County and the inn is at at an intersection so there can be some traffic noise, depending on where your room is located.

Upon arrival, we were told that our room, with hot tub, was not in condition so were immediately offered an upgrade. Not only did we receive an upgrade, but we got the Cottage property, which I believe is the nicest room (separate building) in the Inn. The front desk staff were very pleasant and accommodating. So, this was our first experience.
We decided to have lunch at the onsite Pub, which was decorated nicely and the food and service was very good.
We then had the table d'hote at the onsite restaurant, Amelia's Garden, where the food was prepared by a real chef and was delicious. Portions were good and the ambience and service was superb.
I would highly recommend The Waringhouse Inn to anyone travelling to the Picton area.

We stayed at the cozy stone cottage on one occasion and recently stayed in the newest section. The beds are like sleeping on a cloud...we went to the Barley Room for dinner on both occasions...the creme brulee was superb and is almost as good as my husband's (he will be reading this, I love you, Scott). I would and have recommended this resort as a close romantic get-away destination.

The people who worked there were great. However, the bathroom door was hanging off of its hinge and would not close. The toilet did not work when we got there. There was no hot water until they turned it on. The food was overpriced and nothing special. To top it off, the bed sheets had stains on. There were cigerette butts in the flower pots and on the patio to our room. We stayed there for one night and did not not even want to stay for breakfast. We couldn't wait to leave.

We've stayed at the Waring House at least 20 times over the years. The last two times we stayed we were unimpressed. Broken sink in the room.-had to brush my teeth in the bathtub. Broken hairdryer in the room during the next stay. Plus, the staff doesn't really seem to care. I'm no fan of the owners and would have gladly stayed elsewhere but there's not much else to choose from -- her other property, the Picton Bay Motel is a dump. We're coming down again soon and we're thinking we might stay at the incredibly gorgeous Frontenanc Inn in Kingston instead -- insanely beauitful, a full suite, walking distance to restaurants, excellent service, delicious breakfast included -- all for about $20 more than the Waring House. We might also try the Newsroom in Wellington. STAY AWAY FROM THE WARING HOUSE!!!

We booked this for our 40th wedding anniversary weekend.

We were underwhelmed by this property - it is not an "Ontario Finest Inn." Our room 15 was jammed with furniture - we had to climb on the bed to get to the cupboard, which was made private by a curtain, not a door. Our "terrace" was, in fact, looking out over the junction of two highways. We had a dripping tap, a door lock that didn't work.

The restaurant was very good, if a bit over-priced, compared to others in the area.

This is a fine motel - it's not a great inn, so not worth the price.

My husband and I spent 3 idyllic days visiting with friends at The Waring House. Our room was in the main house which has only four guest rooms but also hosts a dining room and pub. The room was furnished with antiques and decorated in a rather victorian style. Old photos graced the walls. Even though the Inn is a restored 1860s home, the guest rooms do have central air. We were happy to forgo the air and open a window. Our room had a queen bed with a down comforter and was incredibly comfortable. The bathroom looked to be brand new and was good sized. Even though there was entertainment most nights in the pub, not a sound crept upstairs.

Everyone we met on the staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. We ate two meals in the pub and were delighted with the food. My friend and I had lobster one night and throughly enjoyed it. Breakfast does not come with the room and is quite pricey but it is so elegant to sit in the breakfast room gazing out on the beautiful garden - rather makes you forget the price.

Many of the herbs and vegetables, as well as the cut flowers, are grown on site. The gardens are well tended. There is also a cooking school for those who have interest in the culinary arts.

The location is close to Sandbanks Provincial Parks and many of the wineries that dot the landscape. Picton is an incredibly gorgeous little town.

I would highly recommend Waring House for a peaceful, relaxing and refreshing get-away.
