We had lunch on the lovely patio at the County Cider Company. We ordered the humus platter plus two servings of the tropical gazpacho -- tropical, we were informed, because it includes pineapple. The gazpacho tasted good, but had an unusual "fizz". We initially wondered whether the recipe included adding some of the cider, but after a few spoons realized that the soup was starting to ferment.
No sooner had we brought this to the staff's attention than the chef was at our table full of apologies. Not only was the charge cancelled, but she insisted on replacing the soup with an artichoke and asiago appetizer.
Both the replacement appetizer and the humus could not be faulted in any way. They were delicious, and the service was generally friendly and attentive.
We all make mistakes. A restaurant that quickly 'fesses up and puts things right deserves full credit.
PS: The house cider also more than lived up to expectations.
