Hayes Inn was built in 1838 in Consecon on the west side of Prince Edward County and moved to it's current location in the 1970's. The inn has been both restored and renovated so that it features original wall paintings in the dining room and the most modern of bathrooms. The finishings are of the highest quality - what looks like Restoration Hardware fixtures and woodwork, trim and moldings recreated from original designs and old photos. The decoration is simple and uncluttered - some might find it understated but we liked the clean elegant look
The curious thing about this place is the absence of hovering owners and staff. We were greeted with a note and directions to our room. The innkeeper returned to fill us in on the routine and ask when we wanted breakfast. And then she disappeared and we had the entire inn to ourselves. We sat in a common room and took advantage of the complimentary glass of wine, decided to stay and eat some bread and the cheese we had just purchased down the road at Fifth Town Cheese. As we dined and read the paper in the sitting room, a few other guests inquired whether we were the owners.

A full Breakfast is included and very good.
