“Poor service, unfriendly staff”

The ofuro spa prides in naming its facilities the 'most zen spa'.

If I were to name a public place/moment for the last few years where I felt less aggressed, that won't be ofuro.

I was relaxing, between baths, reading a book on my huge phone screen; mind you, at the moment the phone wasn't really a phone, in airplane mode having no connectivity.

One of their patrolling agent came to me and said: how do you dare using your phone, phones aren't allowed, bla-bla.

Told him the phone was actually reduced to a soundless ebook reader at the moment, he didn't want to hear any of it.

So I put the devide in my robe's pocket.

A minute or so later..!!..the same guy comes back: " I told you to put it in your pocket AND lock it in your lockers". Replied: "And I intend to do so, as soon as I get outside, let me rest for a couple minutes.."

He insisted I should do it right then, in a menacing tone.

So I just gave up, not worth the trouble of arguing with a dedicated ebook lover..:)

I never felt more like a criminal in my life, it had to happen in 'the most zen spa in quebec'..:)

Other than this, probably paid more attention later on, but surveillance cameras in the trees, facing the pools and also in the relaxing room seem disconcerting at best.

Stick with le refuge or similar places where reading an ebook, even on your cellphone, is ok, or was an year ago. myself won't go back either way.

“Our 2nd visit...this time we braved -15 degree snowy weather!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

Having already been to this spa before...and several others in between (Spa Findlandais, La Source, Polar Bear...) it was without hesitation that we came back again to Ofuro! This time however, we braved a visit in the winter...in -15 degrees while it snowed the entire time too!
Despite our apprehension & to our surprise, it was a rather pleasant and adventurous experience...& rather busy too for a Thursday.
Instead of the regular price of $50 per person for access to the baths, we were lucky to have caught a 1/2 price promotion with Groupon which was an added incentive to brave the cold temperatures! lol Unlike other spas, Ofuro was the only spa that INCLUDED the hooded bathrobe, a towel and a bottle of water at NO EXTRA COST OR RENTAL FEE!
Since out last visit, they had added 2 extra hot tubs...which was very appreciated in the cold weather!...and we also had access to another section of dry sauna, steam and relaxation rooms which we didn't know existed because they were closed at the time of our last visit back in July of 2012...needless to say, plenty of space for everyone.
A tip...perhaps only use the hooded bathrobe & save the towel in your locker for later as it will be a welcomed dry warmth when you change before leaving & you might want to quickly dip your sandals in the warm water as you leave each hot tub for they have a tendancy to freeze pretty quickly sitting on the snow! :o
We are looking forward to our next visit to Ofuro & encourage anyone who is undecided to discover their adventurous side...sun, rain or snow! Happy Spa! :)

“Unhelpful and unfriendly staff”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2012

This is truly the worst customer service i have ever received. After being told the wrong appointment time, i arrived much earlier than necessary. The pools were nice to relax in for a few hours but after a while we wanted to go for a walk. Our robes were wet so we handed them into reception as our rooms were not ready (and clearly noone was pushing for our room to be ready) regardless of their mistake. We got a very rude refusal from the manager that we were only allowed one robe per day and she didnt even want to just hang it up for us while we were out. Instead we were expected to put our soaking wet robes in a locker.

We also had a rude receptionist in the morning which didnt start our supposedly relaxing day at the spa very well.

All in all this trip turned out to be more stressful than relaxing because of the staff members. Would never return!

“Very nice place, but caddle like service!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

Ofuro spa benefits from a prime location; it is secluded, in the woods, has great grounds and even very decent staff of massage therapists, however, they have no ground rules!!!

The point of a spa is retiring in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoying peace and quiet: getting a good massage is subjective because it depends on each person's appreciation of the massage.

We stayed overnight, from a Sunday night to Monday afternoon, so we had expected crwods on our first day but not the following afternoon...

The rooms are very nice: there are only five so book fast! The facilities overall are nice but some need more attention..

The BIG PROBLEM for me: the place has no policy about the amount of people they let in and you clearly get the feeling that they pack the place up as much as they can, which totally takes away the relaxing theme. Everywhere you go there are people, some loud some quiet, but you have nowhere on the grounds to feel alone and at detached, and there is no supervision on the grounds so if people are noisy you kind of have to deal with it... and for what you pay:

“been to better places”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2012

Purchased coupons on the internet via Groupon on 4jul2012(never again) however we were unable to get any suitable dates during the summer and had to settle for a monday in septembre. We had an all inclusive with overnite stay.Food choices and quality were less than what we expected. The water in the spas and washroom was color green. We did not use any of their facilities needless to say and water is not drinkable. We were to spend the nite there. It was 8:30 pm when we returned from supper But with noone at the reception or front desk (nor anywhere else) nor any presence of a security guard it turned out that we were the only souls on the site (no cars ,no dogs nobody but us)..we left a note saying we could not stay there ,that we feared for our safety and left the premises(SCARED) .we contacted the manager 1st thing the following morning and we were told that there was nothing unusual to what we experienced. We were offered a 2for1 coupon which of course we refused.
