I have stayed, eaten, and gassed up at this Alaska Highway roadhouse many, many times. Every time I drive away shaking my head and fuming. This last stop (and will be my LAST stop here forever) was no exception. The service was rude (like I was interrupting), the prices were ridiculous ($9 for grilled ham and cheese - cheese slices and cheap ham, plus a 50 cent charge for using my credit card on an purchase under $10, $100+ for a rank bunkhouse and scuzzy toilets), and exceptionally outrageous response from staff when I asked to send a single email ("that single email will cost you $5" and turned and walked away).
I have lived in the north for a very long time, and I realise that tourist season is short. But here's the thing, I travel to Watson Lake for work on a regular basis. I have spent hundreds of dollars at Nugget City. I will no longer stop - I'll push my car to J37 for gas and eat road kill before I stop at Nugget City again.
Must be nice to have so much business that you can treat the locals like garbage.
