When I think of the brief but glorious time I spent with my husband at Halfmoon Cottage - one of the many luxurious log cottages that comprise Florencia Bay Hideaway - there are hardly words to acurately describe it. The three (and soon to be 4) private cottages tucked away along the Pacific Rim Highway are either newly built or newly upgraded and have been outfitted with every conceivable necessity and more. From plush new towels and down duvets to the flat-screen TV and capuccino maker, your hosts Teri Ann and Brent have done everything to ensure your stay has all the comforts of a 5 star resort. Yet there is a wonderful contrast from these luxuries and the "rustic" feel of the cottage itself: A hewn log staircase and bannister to the loft, the handcrafted driftwood lamp and side table in the living room - all a welcome reminder of the wildness of the Pacific Coast you are visiting. Nights are heavenly at Halfmoon Cottage due to the high quality mattress and sumptuous down duvet that graces the queen size driftwood ensconced bed. I have never slept so well away from home :-) Each cottage also boasts their own private hot tub which will be made ready for your arrival. You also have the option of a soak in the clawfoot tub or a long steamy shower as the bathroom is outfitted with both. Make sure to take advantage of the complimentary shampoo & shower gel thoughtfully provided by your hosts. While the price of accomodation reflects the demand of this oft visited region, keep in mind the money you'll save and the convenience of having access to a well equipped full size kitchen. There are at least 2 well stocked grocery stores nearby that will assist you with meal preparation. Only steps away are 2 wonderful hiking trails which take you through Pacific Rim National Park to Halfmoon Bay and Florencia Bay. If you're off-season as we were, take a picnic & blanket and enjoy the incredible beauty & solitude of these beaches. Simply awesome - we can't wait to go back!
