“Good food but not great”

I hate it when you go to a restaurant with a limited menu and no sooner than you have sat down eh waiter is telling you that they are out of 2 of the entrees, and an appy. The food was ok, but for the price I expected more.

“Gorgeous hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2013

Room was amazing. Great value for amenties, loved the tub and shower. Right on the water, lounge and resto have great views and ambience. Service was excellent save for dining room, where menu knowledge seemed to be an issue. Food was so-so, expected more considering the bar set by the rest of the staff. Dinner menu was split between western/fusion dishes and sushi? Chicken croquettes were a bland interpretation of a spanish classic, oysters on the half-shell were still firmly attached to said half-shell. Sushi was also a display in underseasoning and over starching(battered and deep fried roll!). Breakfast was lacklustre with deep fried hashbrowns and one intact egg out of two, both sitting in a half inch of acidulated water. Came with one sausage and half-buttered toast, no garnish. Pancakes were banana, which translated to banana puree incorporated into mediocre batter, three flatjacks for how much? Still I would reccomend if you are looking for a beautiful, modern hotel in Ucluelet. Plenty of other places to eat while you are here...

“View!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2013

We ate on arrival after a long day driving so we didn't have to go to town. Also had 100 voucher
Thursday night is quiet so no problem with service

Wine is pricey but house wine ok

We shared dishes and they split the main and salad free and no complaints. Each dish was presented as well as one

Cheese onion soup!!!! Raw salmon roulad!!! Quail egg salad!!! Halibut steak was so fresh
Remember you are a long way from cheap chain restaurants!!

“A five-star storm-watching experience....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013

During our dinner at Black Rock Oceanfront Resort's Fetch restaurant, we experienced the wild beauty of a Pacific storm and the best of Vancouver Island’s fall bounty. It was a blustery October evening with blowing rain and howling wind when my colleague, Anja, and I sat down for dinner next to the floor-to-ceiling windows and sipped Pergola Prosecco while watching the storm pound the coast.

Surrounded by the swirling Pacific Ocean on three sides, the setting at Fetch Restaurant is absolutely mesmerizing. With its dark walls blending into the night sky and contemporary light wood accents, Fetch’s sensual atmosphere is ideal for enjoying the local seasonal fresh food and Ocean Wise seafood prepared by Executive Chef Louise Pickles.

Anja and I started our culinary indulgence at Fetch by slathering salted butter and olive oil on the freshly baked focaccia on our table - pure bliss! From there we sampled the organic chicken and lemon thyme croquettes smothered in a goat cheese, tomato paprika sauce that was plate licking good.

Moving on to starters, I enjoyed the crispy duck salad with watercress, daikon, fresh cabbage and mango topped with duck confit. The salad was crunchy, light and refreshing and the serving was fairly large. Anja ordered the tuna chirashi, a meal, in itself, with fresh avocado slices, tuna sashimi, chanterelles, spicy chirashi on a bed of daikon with rice, nori and cucumber. It too was fresh, tasty and delightful.

As the rain and wind intensified, we chatted with our friendly and knowledgeable server, Noamie, about the entrees. In addition to the fabulous seafood on the menu, Fetch was featuring a hanger steak for the “Butcher Block” special. We couldn’t stay away from the seafood though and Anja decided on the Blow Hole roll sushi, and I ordered the albacore tuna with corn, bacon and potato hash.

The albacore tuna arrived very fresh and seared in a generous portion that could easily be shared between two people. The Blow Hole sushi, one of the intriguing fusion maki rolls served at Fetch, features spicy tuna, tobiko roe and flavourful fruit salsa. The Blow Hole roll was so yummy, I’d definitely try the other Fetch sushi rolls and pair it with one of the great cocktails or local beers on the menu.

For desert, I had the tiramisu with espresso ice cream and Anja indulged in the hazelnut mousse cake. The tiramisu was heavenly on a bed of cocoa nibs and the espresso ice cream was so delicious I devoured it as if I was ravenous. Anja’s hazelnut mouse cake was rich and decadent.
