We've been planning our wedding, and in looking for a location we came across Black Rock. As soon as we walked through the front door, and saw the sun shining through the huge windows and waves crashing below on the beach, we knew that we had found our place! We stayed for 2 nights, slept like babies, ate the most amazing meals at Fetch (try the creme brulee!!), walked the very beautiful Pacific trail, and met with the lovely staff that will be helping us with our big day! This place is fantastic, and I'm so excited to go back again! And now we have an excuse to go back every year on our anniversary! Hooray!

Ucluelet seems to play second fiddle to Tofino, but places like the Black Rock should hopefully change that mentality. The location is spectacular, perched on a craggy shoreline overlooking a little bay. The location of the hotel is great, and the hotel itself has picked up the design elements of its surroundings - lots of glass, black rock, clean lines and simple accents.

The rooms are designed to capitalize on the view, and every suite on the southeast facing wing seemed to have a fabulous view of the shoreline and sunrise! The rooms are extremely clean and comfortable, simply furnished and designed with a very "West Coast" feel. Having a full kitchenette is wonderful, and the sweeping windows in both the living room and bedroom made the space seem expansive. The fixtures are good quality, as are the linens. The walls seem a bit thin and projected quite a bit of noise, but we did not have any noise issues in the evening and slept well.

The public areas of the hotel are interesting and expansive, but I found them a bit large to be "cozy". The lobby is sweeping and very impressive. The restaurant is really big and when full seems a bit busy, losing some of the peaceful ambience. We enjoyed lunch at Fetch (the main restaurant) but found that the dinner menu was a bit overpriced for what was offered - I would recommend going into town (Norwoods) instead.

The hotel is located right on the Wild Pacific Trail and you simply walk out the door for access to the beautiful and rugged Tofino coastline. The hotel is pet-friendly and we found their attitude towards pet owners great (many hotels boast of being dog friendly, but are extremely restrictive). The rooms themselves are conducive to bringing a pet - with slate floors in the entry ways and an easily accessible stairway so we did not have to traipse through the lobby with wet paws. There is also a dog wash station on the way up from the beach.

Ucluelet is a sleepy little town in the winter, but we really enjoyed the isolation and being able to enjoy the splendor of the west coast without the crowds. The Black Rock is a great alternative to Tofino!

Stayed at Black Rock during some stormy weather..loved it!
But...Lunch was vary unimpressive, the menu looked great so I ordered the seared tuna soup,it looked good but was cold and the tuna, smelled, well a tad to fishy.....I ate it anyways, a move which I regreted many hours later as i felt ill most of the night.

Arrive late in the evening Friday and was greeted by a smiling, friendly Wendy at the front desk. Checking in was easy and we were offered a number or room choices.

Our room overlooked the ocean and the sound of waves was soothing. Lots of little details like a fireplace made the room very enjoyable, in-floor heating, rain shower, big deep bath made for a very well equipped bathroom.

Breakfast and dinner at the one on-site restaurant was a treat. Service was very attentive. Hotel has an excellent wine collection. Food was fresh and local.

Great new resort, lots of amenities and wonderful staff made for an excellent stay.

This was our second time for the Black Rock. This time we had a room right on the ocean with the tide almost at our balcony. It was so peaceful, felt like we weren't even at the resort. Our dog loved her own private patio.Again the service was top notch! We will be back!!

The staff, top to bottom are super friendly
The hotel room is roomy, comfortable, quiet.
(Great time of year to come if you want almost the whole resort to yourself)
The bathroom is huge, very modern, clean, the soaker tub is fantastic, the shower is large, but I don't like the rocks covering the floor.
I found these very uncomfortable and hurting my feet, even though it looked really cool.

Fully stocked kitchen but I found dirty knifes and hair in the drawers, having said that, I can live with this because the cleaning staff scrubbed the 2 pots, I left soaking in the sink, thank you!

I found drink mark rings on anything with a flat surface, table, kitchen counter, ledge between the bathroom and bedroom, but the rest of the rooms were spotlessly clean.

Parking is fantastic and FREE!
Internet service is good and FREE!
The hotel is minutes walking from the rugged west coast beaches and hooks up to the Wild Pacific Trail, which is nature at it's best.
I was able to bring the dog.

The spa is nice, but I noisy. Very hard to relax with a massage when you can hear everything and everybody's going on's in the rest of spa.

The fireplace makes it nice and cozy.
Both TV's (bedroom and living room) are a good size.
Large windows in every room, from top to bottom, with fantastic modern dark pull down/up shakes that really work in making the rooms dark at night.
The windows are nice and clean. (not an easy task on the west coast)
Even though we did not have an ocean view, we still had a wonderful view of the other cabins, forest and a limited view of the ocean.
The cabins are situated so that you are not looking into each others living space.
