This was our second time for the Black Rock. This time we had a room right on the ocean with the tide almost at our balcony. It was so peaceful, felt like we weren't even at the resort. Our dog loved her own private patio.Again the service was top notch! We will be back!!

The staff, top to bottom are super friendly
The hotel room is roomy, comfortable, quiet.
(Great time of year to come if you want almost the whole resort to yourself)
The bathroom is huge, very modern, clean, the soaker tub is fantastic, the shower is large, but I don't like the rocks covering the floor.
I found these very uncomfortable and hurting my feet, even though it looked really cool.

Fully stocked kitchen but I found dirty knifes and hair in the drawers, having said that, I can live with this because the cleaning staff scrubbed the 2 pots, I left soaking in the sink, thank you!

I found drink mark rings on anything with a flat surface, table, kitchen counter, ledge between the bathroom and bedroom, but the rest of the rooms were spotlessly clean.

Parking is fantastic and FREE!
Internet service is good and FREE!
The hotel is minutes walking from the rugged west coast beaches and hooks up to the Wild Pacific Trail, which is nature at it's best.
I was able to bring the dog.

The spa is nice, but I noisy. Very hard to relax with a massage when you can hear everything and everybody's going on's in the rest of spa.

The fireplace makes it nice and cozy.
Both TV's (bedroom and living room) are a good size.
Large windows in every room, from top to bottom, with fantastic modern dark pull down/up shakes that really work in making the rooms dark at night.
The windows are nice and clean. (not an easy task on the west coast)
Even though we did not have an ocean view, we still had a wonderful view of the other cabins, forest and a limited view of the ocean.
The cabins are situated so that you are not looking into each others living space.

Black Rock is located on the west side of Vancouver Island, which in winter is a difficult journey on the roads. Once there, we were welcomed by a staff of attentive and friendly folks, from the desk to the maintenance person.
It was almost like we were the only folks there, but there were others. I have never been treated this well.
There is more: the wind, rain, waves and ambience were serene and exciting.

The room was clean, quiet and felt like a place I could live in for a month.

The restaurant and our servers (Barry and Hattie) were wonderful!

We can recommend this resort for an escape and a rest. We will absolutely be back.

This is a gorgeous hotel with stunning views of Barkley Sound. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and well-equipped with the most up-to-date appliances. We were only able to stay one night to celebrate a birthday but will be returning for sure. We would recommend a minimum stay of 3 nights to experience everything there is to do, not only in the area, but at the resort itself which includes a spa, fitness center and fantastic restaurant. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and speak highly of hotel management. This is a good sign.

We stayed at Black Rock for our two year anniversary and had a totally perfect weekend. The setting is so spectacular. Even though we live on the ocean on Vancouver Island, visiting the West Coast during storm season is still a thrill. The resort is very isolated, especially at this time of year when Ucluelet is very sleepy. Fine for our purposes but keep this in mind if you're looking for options and activities. We never left the hotel and were perfectly OK with that!

We stayed in a Studio unit on the trail, rather than in the hotel as they are slightly larger and had a couch & sitting area. The only downfall to this is that it's a short walk to the main hotel & restaurant from these rooms. Fine in the summer but during storm season its generally pouring rain and walking to our anniversary dinner in high heels in the rain was out of the question. We actually had to drive over (keep in mind parking in front is limited). The studio units in the hotel are all on the side of the building so your forward view is forest and to see the ocean you must be out on the balcony looking to the right. The units on the trail have forward facing ocean views although you are set back in the woods slightly, with some trees between you and the ocean. If you're looking for full on oceanfront with best views then I suggest the one bedroom suites that are situated in the area of the hotel above the restaurant. My dad stayed in one of these rooms and raved about the proximity to crashing waves.

Our room was completely luxurious and contemporary which is totally our style. It was so spacious and had every comfort we needed. We love that they are dog friendly and they were so accomodating with bringing a larger bed for our big fur baby along with dishes. The bathroom is total luxury and the best part was the window you could choose to open from the bathroom to the main room. So you can soak in the tub and look out towards your view. Or as i did, soak while watching a movie on the wall mounted flat screen! The front desk has free dvd's you can borrow.

All 3 meals we ate at Fetch were delicious. Dinner was pricy but in line with comparable restaurants. The breakfast and lunch were very good value and the view from all tables in the dining room is truly spectular.

We would most definitely return during storm season, which in my opinion is the best time to visit. The prices at this time of year are an incredibly good value for what you are getting.

This is a wonderful location and the hotel is beautiful, using natural elements in the design. Loved the use of wood and rock throughout, and all the decor, art and accents seemed thoughtfully selected. We found the hotel room very comfortable with nice extra touches. Loved the bathroom. The lounge is very cozy, and we found the restaurant food excellent. All the staff we encountered at the check in desk were very helpful, professional and knowledgable. This location is one where you could just pick a window and just stare out at the ocean and never tire of the view. Be sure to take the short drive to the Coast Guard station for even more amazing views and it's an easy hike/walk through some or all of the Wild Paciific Trail. We are already planning our next trip.

My wife and I included a night at Black Rock during our recent trip to Vancouver Island for our 43rd anniversary. The setting is lovely and even dramatic. Vistas that can only be enjoyed in a few very special places. The resort itself is fair unpretentious but has a few rough spots. The front desk staff was very good..a bright spot! Once checked into the resort, parking is a real challenge except for a very few rooms. The rooms are decidedly under lit. Again, a nice stay but certainly nothing to rave about save the adjacent oceanfront. My wife and I left underwhelmed with the Black Rock. Dined at the much heralded Ftech and were unimpressed with the overcooked salmon and small portions. Avoid the restaurant! Oh, and unlike most good hotels who afford a reasonable cancellation policy, Black Rock does not return your money if you cancel within a week of arrival. This is a very poor way to do business.
