After the five hour drive from Victoria we arrived at Black Rock expecting big things. That's certainly what we got in terms of the hotel location, it is absolutely spectacular and feels like it's in a special place. The rooms too were huge with superb views through the old rainforest to the sea. They were clean and tidy and the bed was especially comfortable.
That is where the plus points end!
For a hotel that is set up as a smart upscale destination venue its a little lacking in the following areas;
* very scruffy reception staff (creased up shirts, unpressed and clean trousers and shoes) with exception of the uniformed 15 year old young man acting as doorman on occasions.
* a gas fire in the room that had a permanent pilot light burning in August. This generated a surprising amount of heat in the room and was a complete waste of gas and certainly not Eco friendly.
* the gym and spa facilities were much, much, much to small for a Spa hotel
* poor service in the restaurant a 50 min wait.
