“Local sealife”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

All sealife is locally caught and then released back into the ocean when the tourist season ends. Only 1 of 2 known catch and release programs in existence and they were the model for the 2nd one.

“Wonderful little aquarium”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

My wife doesn't like aquariums. You won't find her at Sealand or any place with tanks of fish. She doesn't even like the fish tank at our dentist. However, she had a wonderful time at the Ucluelet Aquarium. First of all this is a catch and release aquarium. The animals are returned to the ocean and new ones take their place. We started our tour with a quick wash of our hands and then onto the 'hand's on' display tanks where you could reach in an stroke a starfish, glide your fingers along an sea anemone and turn over a shell to discover a hermit crab. There are many other wonderful animals to discover as you would see them in the tide pools of Vancouver Island and the Pacific Coast. The larger tanks hold the bigger fishes, large sea cucumbers, even a barnacle laden fishing float that made its was across the ocean from Japan. The docents and helpers we wonderful and excited about their great aquarium. It takes about a hour to go through the museum. It is good for all ages - although we avoid children where ever possible. The kids who were there when we were appeared to be having a great time. I would recommend it for everyone and hope that it gets bigger and maintains its great quality for years to come. My wife's highlight was a big, huge, orange octopus.

“Educational, Spell-binding”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

How wonderful to see the incredible diversity of life that inhabits the waters in this area. I think what struck us most was how close you could get to these creatures, unlike so many other sterile-feeling aquariums. Loved the big octopus and the tiny but flamboyantly coloured sea slugs. Kids and adults alike thrill at the opportunity to touch a variety of sea life in the touch tanks. We visited after experiencing hundreds of starfish and anemones at low tide on one of our hiking excursions near Chemainus. It was great to ask questions about what we'd seen in real time. There was only one staff member working and she was an encyclopedic wonder of knowledge--her enthusiasm was contagious. This is worth every cent of admission. The place isn't glamorous but who cares?

“Great aquarium!”
Reviewed October 14, 2013 via mobile

We visited the Ucluelet aquarium when we went there on vacation this past June. It was fun and we had a great time there. Great for kids!! We will go again when we visit ucluelet again soon.
The staff said that the sea life that they have are all from around the area and are put back in their habitat after a while and changes frequently.

“delightful spot”

a lovely little aquarium - they gather sea life from the harbor and bring it in for the summer and then return it in the fall. They have hands on exibits and beautiful examples of the local sea life. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
