My wife and I have been wanting to see Vancouver Island for a number of years, and finally made it this past week. While we had a great time seeing other parts of the island, our visit to the Ucluelet/ Tofino area was the best part of our vacation, solely because of Archipelago Wildlife Cruises.

We realized a few years ago that we were tired of taking tours and excursions with large companies that pack you in and have a checklist with to-the-minute time schedules at each stop, herding people around like cattle. We are looking for more of a personal experience on our vacations, so we like to go with smaller tour companies who, in our experience, do a much better job of supplying memories that will last a lifetime. That personal touch goes a LONG way.

Toddy and Al didn't treat us like customers, they treated us like guests, which is kind of appropriate since the boat is also their home. With a great sense of humour, an atmosphere of relaxation, and wonderful stories about the area, we quickly felt at ease. We had the freedom to move about the boat at our leisure, free access to coffee and tea whenever we wanted it, and it wasn't long before we felt as if we were going for a leisurely day out on the water with old friends.

Because of the atmosphere Toddy and Al created, we were able to get to know our fellow passengers, have leisurely conversations, and by the end of the tour, were exchanging email addresses in order to share photos. The people we met on this comfortable cruise will be part of the great memories.

We anchored in a beautiful cove for our lunch, a gourmet meal that we would have been happy to have received in any restaurant, and Al and Toddy wouldn't let us lift a finger to help. Al even roamed about taking pictures of us with our cameras, making sure we were happy with the shots. In fact, he took the photo accompanying this review.

The best part, of course, was the wildlife. Grey whales, humpbacks (including a mother and calf), bald eagles, sea lions, seals...it was all unreal how much we saw. Personally, it has been my wish for the last twenty years to see humpbacks in the wild, and it is exhilarating to have now done that. The downside, of course, is that I want to do it again tomorrow.

Our day on the water with Archipelago was the highlight of our vacation. We would travel back to Ucluelet just to take this tour again.

As we board the Raincoast Maiden we were greeted by Alan who began by giving us a brief introduction in to himself and Toddy, offering us a very warm welcome aboard their home. Both Alan and Toddy are very knowledgeable of the local area and provided excellent commentary throughout the trip. We were all provided with a pair of Binoculars and even given proper instructions on how to use them. There were also blankets, gloves, rain jackets and suncream, available and Toddy even had some anti sea sickness pills and travel bands for anyone that needed them. Whilst out at Sea we saw several different types of Birds including Eagles, Seals, and Sea lions. Lunch was delicious and was served to us in little picnic baskets, tables and chairs were erected and we sat eating on the top deck amongst the serene area of the Broken Islands. No restaurant can offer views like this. It was unfortunate that we did not see any Bears or Whales, however, this was due to the late Spring and most of the Whales still being off shore. We were a little disappointed of course, but that’s nature. These things are never guaranteed and we had such a fantastic day on the boat with Alan and Toddy, that I would highly recommend this trip. Toddy and Alan were very welcoming, the boat itself was extremely comfortable, and free refreshments were available throughout the trip. A trip to Ucluelet would not be complete without joining Toddy and Alan for a day trip aboard their boat. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely do this trip again, just later on in the year so we have a better chance of seeing the Whales. Thanks so much!

The wildlife cruise with Toddy and Alan was amazing. Even though we were very unlucky and didn't see any whales the cruise was absolutely worth it. The lunch on board was great and you should not miss it. The cruise was better than we expected and worth every penny.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 5 hour tour. The "hosts" were very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating and successfully found whales, seals, eagles & sea lions (no bears) plus plenty of remarkable scenery.

My husband and I were told that this cruise was a must see - and they were right. We had an incredible time seeing wildlife and enjoyimng the company of people from all over the world on an incredible vessel. The captain and skipper were both very knowledgable and friendly and prepared an awesome lunch and voyage. It is certainly a must see when in Ucluelet, BC
