“Great location for exploring the lower Bruce/Grey Counties!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2012

My mother, sister, daughter and I recently enjoyed a couple of nights in the Crow's Nest at this very centrally located B&B. Centrally in that it's extraordinarily quiet in the town of Tara, but with a car, exploring the beaches of Port Elgin, Southampton and the ever-popular Sauble is a breeze. We also wanted to hit the annual Summerfolk Music Festival, and Tara is also only 20-30min drive from Owen Sound. The Doctor's House was the perfect jumping off point to explore the areas parks, waterfalls, the Bruce Trail and farmer's markets. Miriam was on her own (jJohn was in the UK) and she managed very well despite a sudden storm the day before we arrived than knocked out power leaving some computer issues; and trying to learn how to make a great coffee while not having the taste for it herself. Well done Miriam!

With 3 children 7,5,3, it is very difficult to find such a place to stay. We had plenty of room to spread out in the "Crow's Nest"with 2 bedrooms (one with a dbl and one with one queen and a single), bathroom, kitchen, dining room& living room and even access to laundry facilties!! We were fortunate enough to have the extra space that our kids need to be comfortable. The home is centrally located with at least 3 beautiful beaches to visit within 20 minutes. The Hosts Miriam and John were friendly and knowledgeable and very accommodating. Breakfast was tasty and we felt right at home. It was a very pleasant experience. We would definitely stay again.
We would recommend to anyone travelling with kids, a hotel can't provide this much space, privacy or friendly service.

Room Tip: If you are travelling with younger children, ask for crow's nest, it is spacious and very privat...

14th July, Nautical Room
Had a great time at Doctor's House B&B.
Miriam makes this special Bavarian Pancake that is out of the world and also Fruit yogurt to top it up. We could not ask for anything more. John is equally enthusiast to show us around the property and tell us all one needs to know about the areas and places to visit. They go that extra mile to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

We will stay here next time we're visiting the area. Thanks you guys.

My brother and I recently spent a lovely week at The Doctor's House when we were back in Ontario visiting friends and family in the area. The Crow's Nest (3rd floor attic) with its two separate bedrooms, full kitchen, 4 pc bath and dining/living room - complete with big screen TV and DVD - was perfect for our purposes. Our hosts, Miriam and John, were very hospitable and serve the best breakfast in town! During our week we were treated to Bavarian pancakes, omelets, blueberry & bran pancakes, oatmeal - all made with fresh, organic and local ingredients whenever possible - along with a delicious yogurt and berry parfait and the best Earl Grey tea! After a day of visiting, it was so nice to come "home" to The Doctor's House every evening. Although there's not much to see and do in Tara, the B & B is centrally located in the Grey-Bruce area and the drives through the countryside are very enjoyable. Definitely a good choice whether for one night or one week and so much nicer than staying in a hotel!

Our family of three and our friends had a great stay at The Doctor's House B&B. Miriam and John were very welcoming and accommodating. The rooms were large, clean and full of character. The B&B is located close to all Bruce peninsula attractions and we had no trouble getting anywhere we planned in relatively short time.
Overall, great place, great hosts!!!

My family of five (all adults) stayed at their Crow's Nest rooms on a summer weekend. Our hosts Miriam and John were lovely and gracious, and the space was perfect for our needs. I had a hard time looking up places to stay in the area as I was in Michigan and it just seemed there was very little useful or well-organized information about housing or rentals online. I'm so glad I found this place! They were always prompt with answering emails and accommodating concerns and turned out to be an ideal place to stay.

The home is very nice and well maintained. Very large! There are 11 rooms, although not all for guests. It apparently used to be a county doctor's home in the past. There is a large common area on the main floor with a fireplace, but we didn't use it as our rooms had a great living area enclosed.

The Crow's Nest room area at the top of the BnB is great for families or small groups as it has two adjoining rooms and a large living area and a tv and small balcony and well-equipped kitchen, and is great to just "hang out" and play games, catch up etc. It has a very cottage feel to it!

The grounds here are beautiful! We played frisbee in the yard, lay in the hammock, chatted on the lovely deck. The lawn is large and very well maintained! There is a firepit, and a veggie patch.

The hosts were very accommodating with our requests for a diabetic meal for my mom - they made her a bavarian pancake with stevia instead of sugar! The breakfast was delicious, and served with real maple syrup. The fruit cup with the orange juice and then the pancake all became a bit sweet though, and I would suggest adding savory options to the mix. There is a restaurant down the street (Sulky Sam's) which came recommended from the hosts, which we enjoyed as well :)

Nearby there are all the great things the Bruce trail and recreation area have to offer. Port Elgin is great for relaxed cookouts with the family, Sauble beach is right there as well, and then a scenic drive from Wiarton to Tobermory is not to be missed (Flower Pot Island, Chantry Island, etc). We didn't do the islands, but we went to see a couple of lighthouses, ate fish and chips in Tobermory, and went to see the Grotto, which is INCREDIBLE! All about an hour from the BnB!

STAY HERE! We've stayed at BnB's in Mackinaw and St. Ignace) (Michigan) and in Stratford (Ontario) among other places - this is our favorite so far!

Room Tip: The Crow's Nest is great for families, can fit up to 7.

Coming from Cambridge, ON: My partner and I stayed at The Doctor's House B&B in Tara and were astounded by the quality of our stay. Miriam and John (The Owners) treated us like members of their own family. We were greeted with a warm-welcome, then taken for a tour of the house and garden. We were offered to pick our choice of home-grown veggies. Each room had it's own charming theme and beautiful antiques. We were also graced with the presence of John's mother from England and had a wonderful night sharing stories of travels. We are guides and were pleased with the local advice and knowledge that Miriam and John had to offer. The next morning, breakfast was not your typical continental. Miram and John surprised us with Bavarian pancakes with delicious local maple syrup. We will definitely be sure not to pass The Doctor's House B&B when we take our next tour through Bruce County. We fully recommend the experience for anyone.
