An incredible location- with ocean and mountain views. No competition at Artisan Square, except a coffee/chocolatier hole-in-the-wall. Experienced restaurauteurs (They also own Tuscany, an italian upscale pizza/pasta joint)
So why does this place fall flat for me? Well, first, despite some design modifications, it just isn't warm and cozy, unless you sit by the fireplace. The room is echoey, and the scale is not comfortable. Nice to sit outside in the summer though.
The food is serviceable, but not remarkable. The drinks and wine are expensive. The staff get distracted selling stuff out of the deli case (most of which you can get in Vancouver at Bosa foods for half the price). The staff turnover seems high, and they tend to forget small requests during the course of a meal. When four people go out and drop $200+, I don't expect the world, but I do expect competence, and that is not consistent.
