“Very disappointing and disgraceful behaviour by owner”
Reviewed August 20, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

Unfortunately, we feel very let down by the house and inexplicable behaviour by the owner. Having grown up in West Vancouver and visiting my home over many years as a family of 5, we have rented several houses in the past. However, I will never rent this property or any property from the owner again. To start with, the house was located in a pleasant area but the noise of the nearby motorway traffic made it difficult to sleep. We could not use the 'incredible park-like backyard' or outside dining area as it was out of bounds due to the patio collapsing into some very deep holes in the ground. We were not told about any of this until we arrived. As it was too dangerous, our children could only use the driveway area in front of the house to play and the basketball provided was completely flat. We certainly did not see the creek, as advertised. As to the house interior, the living room area and kitchen was large although with notices up everywhere stating the rules about recycling or flushing waste etc; you feel very much as if you are staying in a hostel rather than renting a home. As to the rest of the house, the bedrooms are as advertised but the ensuite bathroom off the main bedroom is anything but. It is the smallest bathroom I have ever seen and barely fits a shower while the toilet is so crammed into a corner that when you sit down, your knees touch the wall in front of you. There is not even a mirror provided and bizarrely, a kitchen roll hangs above the sink. WiFi is provided however, it only works in the living room area of the house and part of the corridor.
Although the house was disappointing, what is more concerning is the behaviour by the owner. We were told that we could not rent the property for less than 7 days although we let the owner know that we would have to leave for the UK a day early. However, the day before we arrived at the property, the owner contacted us wanting to know when exactly, we would be leaving the house. Even though our contract included the following Sunday, he wanted to know when we would be leaving on the Saturday. I replied that we had family plans including a memorial service for my parents who had recently died and as our flight was in the evening, we didn't know exactly when we would leave for the airport. However, he kept bombarding us with emails, insisting that we had to leave at 11am then he stretched it to 12pm. When I said that we had paid for the extra day and questioned why we had to leave he said that we had been clear by saying that we were checking out on the Saturday and he had made arrangements. When I explained that our contract actually said we had the house until the following morning, he still insisted that we had to go. This was obviously very stressful but eventually, after much harassing from the owner, we agreed to put our bags in one room so the cleaners could do their work and we would leave by 5pm. On the last day of our holiday, we again started getting chased by the owner about our leaving time and we soon learned why. On the day we left, we returned to the house to get our things and prepare for going to the airport and spoke to the caretakers of the house. They informed us that the house was being rented out that night. This meant that the owner would be profiting from two families renting the property. In addition, the food and drink that we had left in the fridge ready to take to the airport had been thrown out as the caretakers explained that it was the policy of the owner to do this in preparation of the new renters. So we were left out of pocket even more.
I questioned the owner about both renting the house to two families at once and the food/drink that was thrown out and his response was only ' Sorry if there was a confusion'. I have received no offer of compensation or refund for the night that we paid for and didn't use the house and I cannot believe that renting a house to a second party for the same time period is legal. I am considering how to take this further and as a start, I am reporting this to TripAdvisor.

“Beautiful home, perfect for multi-generational family reunion”
Reviewed August 5, 2017 for a stay in April 2017

This West Vancouver home had plenty of room for 8 adults, 2 toddlers and 1 infant. The kitchen with its expansive windows, double width refrigerator, dishwasher and huge oven is very well equipped and great for cooking for a crowd. There's lots of seating as well as open areas for the children. We appreciated the detailed instructions and the supplies provided for laundry, etc. It is close to Park Royal mall, freeways and Lions Gate Bridge. We didn't have any problem with the home having only 1 large full bathroom and 1 small one with shower.

“Big home, private location in West Van!”
Reviewed September 16, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

This review is long overdue!!!!!

My husband and I took our honeymoon to Vancouver, and stayed in this beautiful home. The first thing you notice is the gorgeous rotunda in the front. There is a basketball hoop - we played every day. The feel of the private forest surrounding you at the end of the cul de sac is very soothing. Although on the other side of the treeline there is a road, you cannot hear anything inside the house. The kitchen was beautiful and very large and allowed us to cook for each other each night with ample space. Although we didn't need a home this size, we wanted to indulge ourselves for this trip. It is very spacious with 4 bedrooms, a large living room with huge television and attached dining room with beautiful tall wood table. The backyard is beautiful and like a little forest of your own. The location is prime for us who don't like to stay downtown it is right on the other side of Lion's gate bridge from Stanley park it was such a quick drive there. The views from the beach in West Vancouver are breathtaking. Capilano suspension bridge is a few minutes drive, very close by in North Van. We will be bringing our family back in 2019 will rent this home again. Finally, The property maintenance guys were so kind and helpful. Can't say enough good things about the owner - always promptly responded and got our security deposit back in a timely manner.

“Great house, great location”
Reviewed March 24, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

The house is exactly as shown in the picture. It is spacious, well furnished and will easily accommodate 8 in the four double bedrooms.

The location is spot on too, you are only minutes way from the slopes in North Vancouver, Stanley Park and on to downtown Vancouver. The mall is at the bottom,of the road. Despite all this, the house is located in a quite leafy corner with plenty of parking and a lovely garden.

Booking was easy and communications with the owner straight forward.

All in all, an excellent stay.

“Lovely Vancouver Cul-de-sac”

The house was well maintained & spacious enough for our extended family. We enjoyed hanging out in the family room & the dinning area was just big enough for the 10 of us. The gourmet kitchen was very inviting, but could have used a few more cooking pots & larger bowls. With our large group, we could have used a larger bathroom. Otherwise, we had a great time & the house was conveniently located for our daily excursions.
