“Wouldn't stay here unless necessary”
Reviewed July 9, 2011

We stayed here for the Olympics, but only because nothing else was available by the time we booked. We arrived to find the sheets in our room weren't washed: lots of hair in the bed and on the pillows. Luckily we were allowed to switch rooms. The rooms all smell of cigarettes. The staff is decently friendly. You can definitely find better budget motels in the area. The only redeeming quality of this place is its proximity to the light-rail station and a shopping mall.

Room Tip: Don't stay here. If you do, throughly review the room before you settle in

The room is like a one bedroom apartment, so the kitchen are handy but have no microwave (what's up with that!). The room are relatively clean except it is a old place, so you cannot expect petty stuff. The worst thing is the air conditioner (small window unit on the wall); it is for the living room only. The unit works somewhat but had no cover or filter and was very noisy. There is central head for both living room and bedroom. There is a softer pull out bed in the living room; the blanket is clean but with some small burn holes. I may have misunderstood, this place does not have breakfast at all. The Free Wi-Fi is not very good, I cannot get a consistent connection from the living room, and only one bar from the bedroom.
For Priceline user, beware that the price only give you one bed, extra bed is extra.
The day time receptionist lady was not very nice in her tone of voice, although she didn't do anything wrong but that could not be good for the travel business.

Finding we needed a 3rd night in the Surrey area after booking 2 nights at a Travelodge and they didn't have a 3rd night for us, we booked about a week in advance at the Grouse Creek Motel.

As advertised, it was quiet. With tax the one queen room was $75. The bathroom was acceptable though my traveling companion has been trained by MerryMaids and said the bathroom "wasn't MerryMaids clean".

The only mirror was in the bathroom, nothing on any of the walls and only one bedside table. There was no combined heat/cool unit, instead there was a baseboard heater and an ancient plug in only (i.e. no controls) air conditioner. It was a smoke free room, but 5 seconds of using the air conditioner (so we would have white noise) filled the room with stale smoke--obviously from filters that hadn't been cleaned in years or the unit had previously been used in a smoking unit.

The bedspread had a burn hole in it.

The carpeting was filthy. Obviously vacuumed, but quite dirty. I am not a neat-freak, yet I felt compelled to not go barefoot in the room. Wore socks the entire time.

Photos attached. The stain on the carpet was suspicious and since the room had a faint urine smell I bent to sniff--had it been urine we would have requested a different room. This was coffee that had never been cleaned up. The path from the door into the room was also very ground-in dirty.

All in all, it was reminiscent of a 3rd world country lodging (desk clerks were of mid-Asian background)...and my companion agreed...she's lived in one of the 'stan countries for 20 years.

Photos do show our stuff around the room, but you can still get an idea of the dirty carpeting and the bare room.
