“"Wonderful Stay"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

It's been a few months, but I wanted to be sure that I wrote a review about our stay. My husband and I stayed at Akane Log Home Bed and Breakfast in August 2012. Gary the owner was a wonderful host and made us feel very comfortable. The log home is tucked away in the woods near the lake and is very well kept. Our room on the first floor was cozy and comfortable. We spent most of our time exploring Algonquin Provincial Park and kayaking. At the end of each day we came "Home" to a nice cup of tea and several interesting conversations with Gary and other guests. Gary made a extra effort to make sure that we enjoyed our breakfast each morning and even made some changes for me, "the picky eater". On our last day he walked us out to say goodbye and waved to us as until we were out of sight and headed off for more adventure. I would definitely recommend Akane to anyone looking for a quiet stay in the woods. Thank you Gary for a lovely stay.

My wife and I have stayed at Akane B&B for the last 3 years and it has never disappointed us. The accommodations are 'top drawer' and the breakfasts are amazing. Meiko and Gary are very gracious hosts who know how to treat the patrons. My wife and I are looking forward to returning next year. D.F.T.Mays

The place is beautiful but the host made us feel very uncomftable.
We had the biggest room in the house (upstairs). Half of the space is a big washroom with a bathtub and shower. The towels were very small and there were no spare ones in the room. After our first bath the towels were wet and we knew that they were not going to dry in the room. We asked if he could dry them for us. We had no towels for the day and went to the hot tub with the robes from the room. We ended up drying ourselves with the robes! Later on we found dried towels outside our room. Before we were able to say thank you Gary told us that he had to bleach them because there was a drop o blood on one of them!
After that it was very uncomftable to stay there. I will not go back.

We regret that anything said and/or actions taken by us during your stay made you feel uncomfortable. It was not our intention to do so. Our commitment to guests is to provide a clean, relaxing and comfortable atmosphere at Akane B&B. We have worked very hard to do this, and we have been rewarded with an excellent reputation here in the Haliburton Highlands. But this does not mean we cannot improve or modify our procedures. We will, in the future, instead of being asked for extra towels, will provide 2 extra sets of regular sized bath towels, hand towels and face cloths in every room. Also, we will make sure that we inform all our guests that it is our policy to ask them to bring their own beach towels for use at our beach on Lake Miskwabi and the hot tub on our deck.. Thank you for your review. We take all reviews seriously, and we are always willing to make changes, when required, to help us improve.

Gary & Mieko are excellent hosts at their Akane B&B, an A frame log home, and made us feel most welcome. Their home-cooked breakfasts were delicious and we absolutely loved the waffles with fresh fruit. The house is located about 10 minutes off the main highway in a heavily wooded area.

There are only three letting rooms; a twin and queen on the ground floor and a king on the upper floor. The king and queen rooms are en-suite while the twin has a bathroom on the lower ground floor.

The double-height open plan area on the ground floor includes kitchen, dining table and lounge area with tv, music and games. We also had access to a large deck with gazebo and hot tub. My son loved feeding the chipmunk which came every morning onto the deck.

The king room is, like the rest of the house, beautifully and restfully decorated and has a gorgeous arched stained glass window. The bathroom contains a very hi-tech toilet / bidet and a separate shower and bath tub. The dehumidifier / air con unit was very welcome during our August stay.

Just down the road is their access point to Miskwabi lake and we made full use of the chairs, canoe and pedalo, spending a chilled-out day by, on and in the lake.

This is a great place to relax & unwind, not only because of the location but thanks to the wonderful but unintrusive hospitality from Gary and Mieko

Thank you for your wonderful review of our B&B!. We were very glad to have you as our guests and we are extremely happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. Our resident chipmunk, Tim Tim The Third, is a third generation chipmunk that has graced us with it's presence and playful antics. Hopefully, next years generation will be just as entertaining. Sorry for taking so long in responding to your review as I was made aware, just a few days ago, that reviews were posted on TripAdvisor.
