Our family from Scotland and England had occasion to be in Haliburton in August 2011. We booked 6 rooms and they were all good. The beds were comfy and the rooms were spotlessly clean. The whole family and friends, who had booked other romms could gather outside and have a chat and coffee etc. Special mention for the housestaff they are worth their weight in gold. The Lake Head Eatery adjacant to the motel was well worth the visit, good food cooked to order and the staff were all excellant.

I LOVE THE MAPLE.....

Some of the reviews I have read about this quaint Motel are ridiculous. It's located beside a gas station...REALLY.... well right when's the last time a gas station blew up beside you?
How about the comment " MY HUSBAND COULDN'T WRAP THE TOWEL AROUND HIM" HEY PORKY LAY OFF THE DONUTS.

Here is the harsh reality of Ray and the SIlver Maple Motel, its old, its by the road, heaven forbid its next to the Shell, OH, AND THE TOWELS...WHATEVER.

This awesome little gem has everything you need. Incredible customer service (Kelly rocks), comfy beds, wicked view of Head Lake, its clean (That would be Colleen's doing), a firepit, a dock on the lake with a plane that you can rent and its quiet at night. Woops, I almost forgot about the best kept secret in the Haliburton Highlands, Head Lake Eatery.

No its not the Royal York, but its less than a hundred bucks. I have stayed in most of the other joints around and I prefer the Silver Maple Motel.

That's it, plan and simple.

You want to spend $200 plus dollars knock yourself out, the Pinestone is just down the road and more than happy to take it. If both places were the same price, I would still make my way to Ray's place.

This is my honest review of the Silver Maple Motel I have absolutely no affiliation with this motel, I just tell it like it is.

We had room #1 and it was just over $100/night for three people. I was nervous because the motel is next to a gas station & snowmobiles are zooming all around there. But we never heard them from our room. So that was good. The staff in the office were very pleasant, there is free wireless internet, and the room was clean, but there was an overpowering perfumy smell in all the linens, which was hard on my son's asthma.

I saw the photos from a previous post & that one actually looked way better than our room. There's hardly anywhere to put our luggage, the bathroom door wouldn't close, the bath towels were old and puny (we had a good laugh at my husband trying to tie one around his waist!). There is a layer of water between the tub liner and the tub (what a weird feeling standing in the tub with the liner sinking/water underneath it swishing).

But apart from the perfume, the worst part was that the room was frigid when we got there. The bathroom walls are cement blocks, so it was hard to build up heat in the room. Part of the floor was some sort of cold tile - I had to put a blanket on it so that we wouldn't freeze whenever we stepped on it. We turned on the through-wall heater/AC but it made so much noise, we kept turning it off because it was too noisy to sleep, then we'd wake up too cold. Not comfortable at all.

We had booked for two nights & tried to find a different place after the first night, but everything was booked except for rooms at the Pinestone over $300.

Not staying there again.

We managed to pay $80 for a room with 2 double beds. Seriously, there is really not alot of other economical options in that area. The room was clean although it could have used an update as far as decor, new bed linens, some small wall repairs and maybe some paint and new wall art. The bathroom has no hairdryer although the room has a fridge. The shower pressure was kind of low and the wall heater was making strange random sounds all night. It was just average. We had a decent breakfast at the Kosy Korner Restaurant the next morning but this time of year is kind of quiet.
