Fabulous well equipped cottage with a great view of the snowdonian moutains. Quiet and relaxing with plenty to do locally.
Our family of five stayed her for the May half-term holiday. The location is stunning. When the sun shines and it did frequently, the views are breath-taking. The barn is surrounded by livestock which our boys aged 4 and 9 loved. A really safe environment for them to play and one which they loved. Loads of places to visit locally to keep everyone entertained.
The cottage is really well presented. Loads of character and lots of space. The bedrooms are spacious and all offer lovely views. It's just made for you to relax and kick-back. The owner was helpful and accommodating and was very friendly.
I would love to return one day as it really was that enjoyable. Give it a try.
Our family of 5 have just returned from a wonderful Winter week in the wilds of Wales staying at this beautiful cottage. The cottage is very well appointed, modern, warm, beautifully decorated and very clean. We were welcomed by a lovely bunch of flowers on the kitchen table, fresh milk in the fridge and a packet of delicious Welsh cakes which was a nice touch after our journey.
There was plenty of room for all of us, with really comfortable beds, a cosy log burner in the living room (large basket of logs supplied), and an enormous fridge-freezer in the well equiped kitchen. Being a large family we made good use of the washing machine and dishwasher too. The cottage is slightly off the beaten track but this makes it ideal for a quiet retreat from city life. I recommend organising a food delivery for when you arrive (Tesco delivers here), although there are a few good smaller stores within a 20 minute drive for essentials. There is good mobile phone coverage at the cottage and WiFi is provided, but data is limited by the owners so streaming videos etc is not possible unless you use your own mobile data.
The area is perfect for walkers, hikers and cyclists with many well signposted hiking trails for all levels of activity. Whatever the weather, you will be able to find something suitable nearby - just remember to bring your waterproofs! The bike trails of Gwydyr Forest and Penmachno are all within easy reach but are tricky for beginners; Coed-y-Brenin offers fabulous family-friendly trails but is further away. The entire area of Snowdonia is within a 1 hour drive, but with many gorgeous walks much closer to home around Betws-y-Coed and Capel Garmon you won't need to venture far. For full-on adventure you could try any of Zip World's activities in the area including zip-lining through caverns underground, or an underground trampoline park called Bounce Below, or if the weather is better, some amazing zip lines above quarries. The shops in nearby Betws-y-Coed are great with major stores from a number of well known outdoor brands present, and a good collection of pubs, restaurants and lovely cafes too. There was a good selection of tourist information leaflets and some books of local walks available at the cottage so you could plan your itinerary while you are there. It would be a good idea to bring your own Landranger maps of the area, although these are on sale in Betws-y-Coed too. There is a small swimming pool in Llanrwst but phone ahead just to check session times, or for a lot more luxury you can check into the Spa at Waterloo Hotel and Lodge in Betws-y-Coed as a day visitor.
Although somewhat tucked away, the cottage was a perfect base for exploring the entire area and we will be returning just as soon as we can.
We have stayed in loads of holiday cottages over the years but this one is the bet yet!
Communication was great with the owner and we had no issues booking.
The cottage was lovely, clean and well equipped with a fantastic view and being able to use the fields to let our 2 dogs stretch their legs in the morning and last thing at night was great.
We will definitely be booking again!
Peaceful location with great views. The place is traditional with spacious and traditional accommodation. Nice touches were a bottle of wine and flowers on the kitchen table for when we arrived. Communication from the owner ahead of our stay was very good. Very handy for dog owners as there's access to open fields behind the cottage.
My only niggles were that the kitchen is not very well equipped (e.g. blunt knives and an oven hob which was a pain to use) and they were a bit mean with the initial supply of logs left for free use.
We loved the cottage and had a thoroughly enjoyable and comfortable week. The new carpet throughout looks great and the enormous king-sized bed in the downstairs bedroom was a real treat. All the crockery etc in the seemingly new kitchen was great and all much appreciated (as were the welcoming flowers and Welsh cakes). We stayed in November and the cottage was toasty warm and we didn't really need to use the log burner, but of course we did as it was one of the reasons we booked in the first place!
Orsedd Wen cottage sets the standard for self catering holiday cottages - we were really impressed and would love to return. I have no hesitation in recommending.
There is also a totally private garden at the back and the property was lovely and quiet as it is surrounded by farmland and down a track, therefore away from any road which was also really important for us. The property is set almost opposite another rental called Orsedd Wen farmhouse, but other than sharing the track and the parking area you can be completely separate. If you rented both properties for a large family gathering I imagine this would be the ideal arrangement.
