Located in a wonderful country setting, but near to Gavray for provisions. A twenty minute or so drive to lovely beaches. Peaceful walk along the riverside also takes you to Gavray. 2 weeks passed in a flash because there was so much to see. If you are a city dweller you must really think you have landed in paradise. The owners, Pat and Dave welcomed us with groceries and local cider and could not do enough for us, without being obtrusive. The cottage itself was very comfortable with everything we needed and we were able to bring our dogs. It was lovely returning for a relax in the garden after a day's exploring.
The location is absolutely amazing as are Pat and Dave. The gite is idyllic and very homely plus the chance of adopting cats and kittens for your stay if you wish to do so, which was a pleasure to do.
If you love peace and quiet and the open countryside with stunning views, then this is the place for you. The sound of owls hooting, the moo of the cows and a cock crowing in the distance added to the experience. There are so many places to visit which are close by, plus fantastic walks to the right or left as you leave the gite. Gavray is a charming little town with bar/restaurants, a well stocked supermarket and a convenience store. We could go on and on but it would become an essay.
Would we go back? You bet, in a flash!!
Thank you very much Pat and Dave for making our stay so memorable in many ways, We will be in touch. xx
The previous reviewer really captured the essence of this wonderfull place; it is an Oasis, it is Tranquil, it is beautiful, it is idyllic, it is comfortable, it is clean.
The Gite is presented as the owners Pat and Dave would like it to be if they were staying as guests and it is that approach which makes this place special.
Everything you need to have a great stay is provided with an abundance of information for the surrounding area and beyond. If there is anything else you need Pat and Dave are only too happy to help.
Booking the Gite couldn't have been easier, Pat stays in contact and is very happy to answer any questions; before you arrive you feel like a friend.
Hot water is abundant, electricity is constant, the phone signal is reliable as is the wifi....... I am typing this from the Gite on my laptop, just prior to our departure in a couple of days.
Crockery is plentiful, the welcome basket is delightful and very practical, especially after a long drive from Yorkshire. You will love the locally produced Cidre and if you do and want more, just ask Pat or Dave, they will be able to source it for you at a very, very reasonable price.
The bedroom is spacious, with more than sufficient storage space and, very important for the ladies, lots of hangers in the wardrobe. From the bedroom you walk down a solid wooden stair case to a spacious lounge/Kitchen. A good sized TV with satalite feed, for we British; not that you will be watching too much TV. You will be far too busy watching the birds and enjoying the peace.
If you have a stressful job and just want to chill, this is the place; if you prefer the more relaxed approach to exploring France, this is the place; if you are more adventurous, this is the place.
St-Malo to The Normandy Landing Beaches are all within easy reach; this location is ideal for giving you the holiday of your choice, not the choice of your travel agent.
I would not hesitate is recommending this little Oasis........ If you are thinking of Booking, stop thinking, just do it, trust me, you will not regret it.
We wanted to come outside the normal arrival days, this was not a problem, because if the Gite is not available on the day your holiday starts Pat is able to offer B&B until the Gite becomes available.
I have just been to view the house where Pat and Dave offer B&B; if you can't get the Gite for the dates you want, don't mis the chance, because the B&B facilities are really the Bees' Knees', it is full of character, calming and comfortable.
Which ever you choose, you will not be disappointed
Booking was really easy and Pat responded to our emails very promptly.
We didn't expect such fantastic weather at the beginning of April and were incredibly lucky to have sunshine for the full 3 weeks. We went for rest and relaxation and got it in spades and managed to fully recharge our batteries.
The cottage is clean and tidy and has everything we needed. It is comfortable in the sitting area and the bed is incredibly comfortable with very good quality bedding. I slept better than I have in years. There is plenty of storage in the bedroom and there was always lots of hot water.
There are many different kind of birds who came onto the patio to eat the food that the owners had placed there for them and it was lovely to watch them and to listen to them singing. The place is very quiet and surrounded by wild flowers and trees.
My partner fished in the nearby river and even caught a trout!
We were sad to leave and could have stayed the whole summer. If you've booked you will love it and if you're considering booking I would recommend that you go ahead and do so, you'll definitely not regret it.
I also recommend the Le Krill restaurant which is a few minutes walk away down the lane. Amazing food and drink at reasonable prices (some of the best we have ever had in France). We went on Friday lunchtime and it was very busy with local diners. I bet it's difficult to get a table in the height of the season.
The big supermarket on the way into Granville is the place to get excellent groceries and great wine.
For those that are wondering.....there is phone reception and the wifi works ok. Believe me though you'll want to put your phone onto silent!!
I also must mention the amazing night sky, there is no light pollution and the stars are fantastic, just mesmerising!
We would be very happy to go again, it's such a little tranquil oasis.
