We visited Chiddingfold in October 2012 for a family wedding. Booking late,we missed out on the locals inns where most of the extended family were staying. With some trepidation, we booked an unknown B&B and crossed our fingers.
In the end, we think we were the luckiest of all. The Swann is a lovely hotel, but has nothing on the charm and warmth of the Dovecote. A beautifully decorated Tudor home, it has lovely shared spaces and delightful private rooms. Unlike many places booked online, the Dovecote is even more lovely in reality.
The couple who run it were away the weekend our family visited, but we were ably hosted by their son. The gardens around the Dovecote are a joy, and the countryside surrounding the house provides a wealth of relaxing walks. The Dovecote is also an easy 5 minute walk from the centre of the village, and an easy drive from London.
Perhaps the biggest test of all, we travelled with two of our teenagers (16 & 19), and both of them loved it as much as we did. The generous English breakfasts especially met with our 19 year old son's approval.
If you are looking for a special weekend away, this is the place for you. We could not recommend it more.More
