We arrived just this afternoon. Follow written directions from the school and you will be fine (we were lost for a while). We were met by owner, a lovely friendly welcome. Otters retreat is a lovely high spec sanctuary away from it all surrounded by fields with grazing sheep. The views of the countryside are so relaxing. We've it been here a few hours and already feeling relaxed and chilled. The bedrooms and ensuites have been decorated to a very high standard with quirky, thoughtful ideas. The kitchen, dining and lounge are equally inviting. We are very pleased we chose this holiday home.
Nancy the small dog has been round to welcome us and accompanied us on a walk around the adjoining field. There is a small hill which once at the top results in even livelier views.
There was a gorgeous homemade tealoaf awaiting us which was delicious and much appreciated after a hot journey. The location is great for Buxton and after reading literature there are a few walks planned for the next few days.
Ian and Angela are friendly and welcoming. Our few days here are a real treat.
We enjoyed a truly wonderful break at Otters Retreat. It is in a beautiful setting and the accommodation to a very high standard. Very comfortable and warmly welcomed by the owners along with home made cake which was very yummy. The surrounding area is lovely for walking and the local pub serves delicious food and has a very friendly atmosphere. We would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a break away from it all but with everything you need on your doorstep.
This lovely cottage is situated in a beautiful location in a quiet corner of the Peak District. It's less than 10 miles to Buxton and Macclesfield. The cottage is very well equipped and decorated to a high standard. Both bedrooms have fab en suites. Everywhere was squeaky clean on our arrival there was a lovely home made cake for us to enjoy.
Angela and Ian are delightful hosts and happy to help out with any issue. We had a lovely relaxing few nights stay.
We stayed at Otters Retreat for two and a half weeks in between house moves. It is the most relaxing cottage and beautifully decorated. The minute you walk through the door you start to unwind. Both en suite bathrooms are fabulous, in fact there was nothing about the house we didn't like.
The owners Angela and Ian are so helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The scones and cake were beautiful.
I would not hesitate to recommend Otters Retreat to anyone. There are lovely walks in the area and a pub within walking distance
Thank you Angela and Ian for everything.
We have just returned from our second stay at Otters Retreat and the cottage was exactly as we remembered, clean, spacious, cosy, well equipped and extremely quiet.
The ground floor is open plan, with the kitchen, utility, dining area and lounge working extremely well for day to day living and is roomy enough even if the cottage had four people staying there. Upstairs are two large bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities and scenic views of the countryside.
The owners Ian and Angela are lovely people and are there if you need help with anything.
It was a pleasure to spend a week there and enjoy the location.
If you want somewhere away from the masses but with plenty to do locally or within a short driving distance, then Otters Retreat is the perfect place to stay.
Thank you Ian and Angela for making our stay excellent, plus the cake was delicious, sorry we couldn’t eat it all.
We stayed at the Otter’s Retreat for a few nights over New Year with friends and it was perfect.
Ian and Angela were very welcoming and always on hand to give us useful, local info but they left us alone the rest of the time.
The property is the ultimate, cosy getaway for 2 couples, with an open plan area downstairs and two good-sized double ensuites upstairs. All done to a high standard. Plus the view from the kitchen across their little sheep farm, over the fields towards Hanging Rock in the distance is very picturesque.
It’s well located with two decent pubs close by. We walked down to the Ship Inn for a warm welcome and good pub grub one night and on another drove less than five mins to the Rose and Crown and had superb food, incl local pheasant.
I would also recommend a walk down to the Wincle Brewery Shop where they are v friendly, and I’m reliably informed by my husband that the beer is excellent. The local ice cream shop at Blaze Farm is a worthwhile trip too. Their ice cream is tasty and they have a cute collection of petting animals.
There are walks aplenty directly from the cottage and from further afield, plus there’s also Chatsworth House for a grand day out.
Do yourself a favour and book this place.
