We went for an anniversary trip. we picked the Jewel based on the food options, but got so much more! we met people from kentucky, kansas, europe, and more. The staff was amazing; bartenders konrad, cornell ,garfield each one had there own speciality. everton a lifeguard was also as freindly as they come. Tigger a chef in the japanese steakhouse was so good we went back twice to see him, and then had him again the night of a beach party. tyrone a photographer was always there when you needed a picture taken, this guy caught every moment we wanted captured (amazing) and then there were the GEMS, starr, michugh, kristin, sasha, jason and more. they kept you involved, they knew your name and made the trip a real pleasure. I am so glad we picked the jewel and would go back in a heartbeat to see all of our new friends. If you want a relaxing and fun trip, this is for you!

The hotel is 1:30 hours from the airport. The shuttle service on the way to the hotel was very good, we had driver John who gave us an insight into Jamaica. The shuttle service on the way back with the same company was very poor as the bus was very small and packed with people heading to the airport, to the extent that the back seats of the bus were completely packed with all of our suitcases.

On arrival at the hotel the staff were very welcoming and polite, we were checked in and our room was upgraded from the 1st floor to the 6th floor Mountain View. This was arranged prior to our arrival via email. When we got to our room our first impressions weren’t “wow” but nice. The room is spacey with a balcony but with a very small bathroom. During our stay we did find that the bathroom would often smell of damp but this is because there is no windows to air it out. Keeping the AC on helped and this wasn’t off-putting. The room maids are a bit hit and miss and do just the basic cleaning with fresh towels providing you place your old ones in the bath tub. The mini bar didn’t always get refilled but a simple phone call to house keeping and they brought up what you want. We did notice that parts of the room such as the headboard and around the TV area were dusty, so they obviously don’t clean very thoroughly.

The food in the hotel was good. There are a few different a la carte restaurants (Italian, Contemporary Caribbean and Japanese), one buffet which is open only for breakfast and lunch, one snack bar which is open from 10am until 7am and also a pizza place, which is brilliant. The best restaurant is the Jade Samurai which is the Japanese restaurant where they cook in front of you. We dined here twice during the week. Tigger was brilliant and entertaining.
The food could be improved if the buffet was open in the evening and if the pizza place was open for slightly longer, as it closes at 8pm. The dinner on the pier on Friday nights is a great experience.

The staff are what make this place what it is. We got to know most of the staff but the ones which made our holiday were Star, Khaled and Mario, who were part of the entertainment crew and Montgomery in the Platinum restaurant. The best barman by far is Cornell. He is hugely entertaining and really livens things up at each of the bar he works at. He has a great selection of 80’s music. Overall, all the staff were willing to bend backwards to make our stay perfect and nothing was too much trouble. Even the gardeners will bring you fresh coconut water every day. It is only fair that good service deserves a tip and we would tip 100 Jamaican Dollars or 1 US Dollar at a time for drinks and a bit more for dinner in the al la carte restaurants

This hotel is a solid 4 star. What could make it better is updated bedrooms and a slightly better selection of Jamaican food in the buffet. If you are staying a week or more, the food does get a bit repetitive. Everything else is perfect.

This was the most wonderful vacation ever, loved the resort, the staff were amazing, always going above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We saw several of the other resorts in Ocho Rios and would choose The Jewel all over again! Special thanks to Garfield at the piano bar, so sweet and funny, Gairy at the waterfall bar, you make a great cadillac gold margarita! Tamara, best pizza we have ever eaten, always smiling, Althea at the buffet, it showed you loved your job, loved to hear you singing every mornin, Everton, thank you for the friendly talks and for introducing me to The Jamaican smile ... Ricardo, great speaking voice and great sense of humor, last but not least, our favorite photographer, Tyrone, so sweet and kind, from The Rebel, ha ha Pick this resort.....you won't be upset!

Facility and rooms were very nice and clean. Not peak season so restaraunt chioces were limited for dinner, however food was good. This medium sized resort made it easy to see some of the same people each day and make friends, yet big enough to enjoy our space too. Enjoyed a couple of the night entertainment events, dancing show, poolside movie. Piano player at the piano bar didnt start until 11 - too late for our taste, and the club was way to loud for us. The hot stone message was great. The staff was awesome, very friendly and accomodating. They work hard to ensure everyone is having a good time. The week flew by, and even though we did not do any off-resort excursions, there was plenty to do for a much needed relaxed vacation.

My girlfriend and I just got back from staying at the Jewel. We were down there first week of May and it appeared to me that the resort was not full. We had an excellent time; we enjoyed the beach, food and entertainment very much. I was a bit disappointed that the buffet restaurant was not open for dinner, but the other places served some really good food you just had to wait to be served. We had a hot rock massage which was very relaxing and they also came out to the beach and gave 2 minute teaser massages.
We had a catamaran ride with one of the staff and he took us to the bottom of Dunn’s River Falls, or James Bond beach at no extra charge it was sweet.
They could have used more bartenders and my girlfriend was disappointed that they did not come around with the fruit on a stick or the warm wash cloths. I bought a watch a Jewel Box and I would suggest if you decide to get one there you get the model number and verify your deal on the internet while there, they have three computers with internet access on the first floor.
This was our fourth time to Jamaica and we stay twice at a big resorts and now twice at smaller resorts. I like the big resorts for the bigger buffets, but the smaller resort has just as good food but allows you to meet and make friends easier. We meet several couples that we hung out with. All and all it was a very nice time had by both of us.
