This was our second stay at this hidden little gem.

We stayed two nights in June and just recently for one night in July. Both experiences were excellent.

The owners were charming and very polite, patient and helpful. This is truly a family run business. The owners serve breakfast and dinner, which is prepared by a great chef. They also manage check-ins and chambermaid services for all the rooms. They are busy, but always helpful.

The rooms are very clean with updated taps and bathroom fixtures, a nice little fridge, television and two beds in the rooms we stayed in.

The beds are the best I have slept on in my travels. There is nothing quite like sitting on your private balcony and looking out on the pastry and forrest.

The food was incredible. The owners, who also serve the meals, are very polite and friendly and the prices are very good too.

It is unfortunate that many folks probably never knew this logde exist, however for those who take the time to make the short journey out of Clearwater, you will not be disappointed.

We will definitely be returning for more stays.

We really enjoyed our stay at Nakiska ranch. Lars was a warm and welcoming host who was most accommodating of the needs of his guests. We had a four month old baby with us and this was not a problem at all. The home cooked meals were a tad on the pricey side, but we didn't mind this extra expense given the quality and amount of food made available to guests. We had some of the best food we were to eat in Canada at this ranch. We also loved the many hummingbirds who frequented the ranch's feeders.

Nakiska Ranch is a class of its own. You must remember that Nakiska Ranch is a real operating farm. It is not a luxury hotel. Knowing that you can enjoy the great ranch with its beautiful views! The ranch located on the entrance of the great Wells Gray Provincial Park. Lars is great host who can cook a real good dinner and make you a good breakfast to start your day. Lars will give you a plan of the Wells Gray Park in the morning at breakfast with al the points of interest in the park. Nakiska Ranch is all about the great host Lars who makes you feel at home.

The room is self was nice, we stayed in the main lodge. Do not expect luxury, but the rooms a comfortable.

We kicked off our 10 day vacation with 2 nights at Nakiska Ranch. We couldn't have chosen a better start. Our host Lars was incredibly welcoming and friendly. We had a room in the ranch house with our own bathroom and it was very comfortable. The food was fabulous and we really enjoyed eating on the deck with the incredible view and the hummingbirds at their feeders. You need 2 days in the park as there is lots to see and do. Lars will pack you a lunch if you ask and show you all the best places to visit. We can't wait to go back.

You'll be welcomed here by larger than life (6ft 6ins) Swiss-Danish stetson wearing cowboy farmer Lars, who is a superb host.

Don't expect high end luxury - this is the real deal... clean but simple log cabins that smell of freshly cut cedar, and are reasonably well equipped (ours had kitchen and living room downstairs, bedroom up) but are just lacking that luxury feel that would probably make them 5 star - and a lot more expensive.
The cabins are dotted round his farmyard and you certainly get the feel that this is a working farm - but Lars takes lots of time to make his guests feel at home.

You can pay extra for an excellent buffet breakfast... and again more for an evening meal. It's very informal, and you may share a table with other guests. We are fussy vegetarians, and Lars & his partner went out of their way to make us a superb meal especially. Seriously good food.

Wells Gray Park itself is amazing - much more rural than Banff or even Jasper, and a greater feeling of being close to Rockies nature. There's a tiny cafe near the lake, but otherwise main facilities are back in Clearwater... about 25km from Nakiska...so pack some snack and drinks.

We saw Black Bears in the field next door - tho' Lars is a cattle farmer, and his dogs keep the bears at a distance.
Also humming birds on the dining room terrace - incredible!

Well worth a stay - allow 2-3 nights so you can explore the park and soak up the calm. Lars says he's starting horse treks, or can arrange them locally.

If you are wondering about Canadian "lodge" holidays/hotels...we found in the Rockies there are three kinds of "lodges":
1- "luxury" - exspinsive but a treat - -Cathedral Mountain Lodge, near Lake Louise
2- "basic holiday camp" - you could be at Maplins - like Bear Hill Lodge, Jasper
3- "authentic ranch" - reasonable standard and the real thing - like Nakiska Ranch

Room Tip: We got upgraded by Lars because a better room was available

Our stay at Nakiska Ranch was fantastic, the surroundings and Ranch itself were just what we were looking for, plenty of waterfalls and wildlife. Lars was very attentive and amiable, and a brilliant cook. I was the first tourist to ride his trails, we fell in love with the place and the humming birds on the deck. My husband now feels he wants to move to the area from England. Lars you could have a new neighbour!

Room Tip: We stayed in the main ranch house which was fine short term but the cabins look much nicer if you ar...

Being in the middle of nature was so great. The cabin is authentic and very high qualities. The host just understood our needs. Rustic but elegant lodging. Great breakfast. We will be back for sure. Can't wait for next year.
