“very interesting”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

so well done, when you approach the site you can not see any buildings, it appears to be just the rolling hills and cliff. the building is built into the side of the cliffs. very interesting, exhibits can be easily seen and the information is not hidden behind glass cases that usually make it hard to read. very quiet and respectful of the Indian culture! worth the stop!!!

“Amazing place”
Reviewed November 30, 2013 via mobile

We had been to Head Smashed In before (twice) but really wanted to go again. If you are going to visit, which I definitely recommend, make sure you allow plenty of time to explore as there is so much to see. As well as all the exhibits inside there is a walkway outside, which is wheelchair friendly, which leads to a viewing point. You can also walk round the track at the bottom of the cliff where the buffalo would fall, though this is a bit more difficult for anyone less able. The exhibits are great and you could spend all day here, and fortunately there is a very nice café and the food is good and reasonably priced, so you dont need to rush off if youre feeling hungry. If you are lucky like we were, you may get to see a demonstration of Indian singing and drumming.
I would certainly go again if we are ever in southern Alberta.

“Must see attraction”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

When first arriving at the attraction we first went to the theatre to watch a short film about the history of the site, after which we went to the top of the building for the viewpoint outside and then worked our way down all the floors to the exit. My impression is that it is a very well put together centre with just the right amount of information about what happened on this site and the impact it had when the buffalo were hunted close to extinction. There was an activity going on when we were there teaching some children on the ground floor how to build a tipi. It is also very well priced and would recommend it to anyone on vacation who is in the area.

“Fascinating Glimpse of the Past”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

The was a recommended attraction from friends in New Zealand. Their glowing comments were appreciated because we had a wonderful time, We enjoyed seeing how the hunters of the past lived and made maximum use of the buffalo so little was wasted and the herds not wiped out. We had a bonus as a local speaker was talking to a school group and we were invited to listen as well before the movie.

“One of the very best places to visit in Southern Alberta”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

If you are a history buff, then you do not want to miss any chance you have to see Head Smashed In. It has an extremely good interpretative centre and shows what the plains peoples did to survive our harsh winters. Also a very good discussion on the impacts that the western Europeans had on them.
