I was pleasantly surprised by this little motel. It was spotless, although it did have a bit of a strong "carpet fresh" smell, maybe Febreeze or something, but I don't mind that smell myself. If you have perfume allergies it might be a bit strong. The bathroom was avocado green....remember those colours? Toilet, sink, and tub, just like my old place in 1972. And the floor seemed to have a vague slant to it, I felt like I was walking downhill. But the bed was super comfy, there was a decent TV as well as fridge and microwave. We missed the free breakfast, but it looked like it was cereal, toast, fruit, the usual sort of continental thing. The best part was the price, I had booked online and it was $60. When you get a quiet, spotless, comfortable room for that price, you can't complain. If I had to stay in Fort Macleod again, I'd have no problem staying here. There was also free wifi, as others have mentioned, and yes, it was slow.

Went there for a tournament and it is not fancy for sure. Has very mismatched 70's style bathroom having various colours for sink bathtub shower curtain etc and small bathroom for sure. Internet was very weak but the manager (I assume that is who he was) brought some internet booster which slightly helped but not much. Despite that the rooms were clean and staff were friendly.

Fort MacLeod is no bustling metropolis. The town looks like it's been hard hit by the recession, with many buildings with closed/for sale/for rent signs on them. However, it's a way point between Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump and the next stop, Drumheller. When we were there, it was quiet as a graveyard. So don't expect anything fancy from the accommodation. The Red Coat Inn Motel sounded OK and was affordable.

- It's right on the street, facing a parking lot. Yet, the room was solidly built and sound-proof. It was very quiet and we had a good night's sleep.
- The bathroom was very small, cramped, the shower curtain stuck to everything, the extractor fan didn't work and it was like showering in a mini-sauna. But it was clean.
- The beds with clean, crisp and comfy.
- The TV and wi-fi worked fine.
- The A/C unit worked fine.
- The sign outside the hotel said breakfast included - there was no sign to any venue where breakfast could be served, it was not on our bill, nor did the owner mention it when we checked in. The website says "continental breakfast included" and if it were included in the price we missed it.
- The motel is on Main Street where there are places to eat within walking distance and a whole string of other motels.

Our room looked out back onto an alley with a broken TV and other rubbish. So we just didn't look at it.

There was a room with an emptied out swimming pool and a sign saying it was closed, but I don't suppose people stay here for a sporty experience.

The website says each room has a barbecue grill and armchairs at the door. Well, they do, but the front door faces directly onto a plant-less parking lot, complete with engine fumes. Who'd want to sit there and eat in full public view I cannot imagine.

We ate dinner at the Silver Grill restaurant, which serves "Canadian and Chinese food". It has an impressive Art Nouveau interior but the food was not so great. I thought it was impossible to mess up chicken chop suey, but they did. It was not busy at all and at one point we were convinced the only other person in the place had fallen asleep behind the bar.

The Red Coat Inn is a typical 80s motel, a bit shabby and outdated, and the only thing that's remotely historical about it is the pictures of Red Coat soldiers on the outside walls. But it sufficed.

Room Tip: Make your own arrangements for breakfast and entertainment.

The goal was Lethbridge but the town was full. It was clearly not our first choice but we had to find a place to stay. We were pleasantly surprised. A friendly staff, clean rooms, AC and internet. It is not a resort so don't expect it to be.

Stayed with family while we were in the area for an event. We had four rooms, including one family suite with a separate bedroom. The family suites are in a separate building but are close to the motel rooms. The rooms were clean but very dated and it was the first actual key I've had for a hotel room in a while. Wifi was available but sketchy. Oddly enough it was best by the picnic table outside by room 20. The staff is very friendly and they seem to really care. The office includes posters and signed photos from Heather Ledger and others from when Brokeback Mountain was filmed in the area. Odd to see a Brokeback Mountain poster in southern Alberta. Overall, a good place to stay in Fort MacLeod.

We have been travelling throughout the USA and Canada for 6 weeks and this Motel has the best beds we've slept in since we've been here. We've been staying at a range of hotels , motels and B & Bs from 5-star to 2-star and the beds in this one can't be beat. Clean rooms, nice staff. All good. Highly recommended if you need a decent sleep.

Room Tip: Our room was room 12
