“Unique Ranch experience with very welcoming hosts!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2012

A winter paradise! With ice skating on the private lake, 600 acres to snowshoe and glorious, cozy solitude on this working ranch in the snow we really loved this place. The hosts Myrna and John were very welcoming and we enjoyed a great visit, even riding along with the farmhand to feed the cows and horses! Cabins are basic but very cozy with wood stove and our upstairs unit had a kitchen which was convenient and economical for meals. No wi-fi access or Tvs to bother you here! Renovations are underway on the gameroom and it looks like they will have lots of activities available for kids there. (Ping pong, foosball, softball, horseback riding, etc.)

A fantastic location - a lake all to itself - a working ranch, wonderful, welcoming people and very reasonable rates made this a Christmas we will never forget. We arrived to the sight of a sleigh ride coming in and there was hot chocolate and cookies waiting for us. We borrowed snow shoes for free from the games room and spent days snow shoeing around or over the lake. We paid extra for a horse riding trek with a guide, which was fantastic. And we got to enjoy a sleigh ride on Christmas day complete with renditions of Jingle bells! A hockey rink is carved into the frozen lake and on a switch-on/off flood light, so some families were playing hockey after dinner. There are loads of tubes for guests to borrow for sledging down the hill, which kept everyone occupied!
As a car-less couple, we were amazed by the fact the owners, John and Myrna, offered to pick us up and drop us off from the Greyhound station in 100 Mile House. This is typical of their generosity and welcoming nature. John even took us up to see his cattle and newly born calves, which was another unforgettable experience.
We had a room only deal - one of the cabins is divided into 3, the others are all single group cabins - and got to sample the range of hearty cooking that Myrna, the chief cook, gave us. It is a bring-your-own affair for wine so this made the holiday very cheap! It is not for fussy eaters however as there is just one meal each day - no choices. I am not sure if vegetarians are catered for though am sure it would only be a case of asking.
The cabin itself is rustic charm, but not luxurious. It is however fantastic value.
We really want to return in the summer as am sure it will be a totally different experience, but the place and the people are pretty unique.

Room Tip: Choose a cabin if you have a group or a family, or a room only option if you are a couple and don...

After a long journey from Jasper we arrived at SLR near 100 Mile House...........which has a VERY long dusty drive with cattle roaming on it, we thought we would never get there but WELL WORTH IT !! Reasonable price accommodation in a very comfortable and clean wooden chalet over-looking the beautiful lake, fields, paddocks with horses - very peaceful. We stayed for 3 nights B&B, Lunch and Evening Meal and enjoyed the food and hospitality. Myrna and John and their excellent staff...Susannah who has now left for the Yukon, Toni who is probably on his way to Vancouver and Sasha were so helpful and good fun to be with. Enjoyed the evening camp fire and marshmallows !! Riding was great as was canoeing (although we capsized) and swimming in the lake. Good value, welcoming and very easy going, I think Spring Lake Ranch is a good place to be for a few days of peace and quiet with many good riding and hiking trails in a lovely setting

We stayed here for a couple of nights with my daughters. The location is superb, with the family cabins set slightly back and up from the lake, giving us fantastic views of the property (or the bit you can see of the 10000 or so acres of the ranch!).
The cabin was comfortable - although be warned - the adults 'master' bedroom is on the open plan upstairs floor, so you are exposed to the rest of the cabin!
You can eat in the restaurant, but be warned, portions are not huge and there isn't a choice, you get what is being served - and being a ranch, don't expect a veggie choice if that's your thing, although that maybe provided if you asked for it.
The main property is 15km off Highway 97, just north of 108 Mile Ranch, so it's a bit of a drive down the gravelled/graded road - that's worth considering if you've had a long days drive like we did, but it's well worth it.
There are plenty of things to do on site, with canoeing, mountain biking, swimming etc, along with horseriding (for a fee).
A complete gem of a place, and we will definately stay again should we be in that area again and are looking for somewhere to stay. The owners also helped us re-jig our stay, as due to a minor change of plans, we arrived two nights early, and asked for an extra night, which they accomodated for us luckily!

We stayed here two days during a trip to West-Canada and did not have high expectations of the Spring Lake Ranch.

Our experience at the Ranch was better then we imagined for several reasons:

+ very cheap but delicious (try the steak) homemade meals. For 15 CAD a day they even included a lunch + the softdrinks.
+ The location is top notch. beautifully located at a lake.
+ Experience the wild (and not so wild) life: bold eagles, beavers, horses, cats and dogs!
+ basic but free laundry service
+ free usage of canoes, waterbikes + kayaks
+ professional horseriding experiences
+ large cabins with wood burning stove

- they don't serve any alcohol with the meals (not licensed). But they do allow that you bring your own

We needed a place to stay, enjoy B & B's for the most part. Decided to stay here. Great couple, John and Myrna. Working ranch so don't expect concrete but do expect the dogs and two cats to greet you as you drive up the gravel/muddy road depending on time of year. The Canada geese also let you know the boundarys unless they are attempting to land on the iced over lake and skid, funny sight! Horses and cows to look at you when you leave your bungalow. No one stays in the main house. The rooms themselves were very clean, no TV but a bathroom. John is talkative and we enjoyed his company till bed anyways. Great fella. Although it is a bit of a drive into the place, it was a great experience. Yes, we'd go back. PS: the food was just above average, nothing fancy! Afterall it is a farm and they are on a working Ranch.
