Description: From Scratch – A Mountain Kitchen is a market bistro located in Fairmont Hot Springs, BC that is a haven for food lovers offering delicious, fresh and seasonal products to dine in, take out or shop away. Our approach to this business is to avoid ordinary and average. We create joy and fun in all aspects of the business from how the in-house product line is presented to menu design to customer service level. We are creating items we love hoping we are not alone in our taste! We also oversee outside catering, cooking classes, launching a retail product line and participate in the local Farmer's Market. From Scratch – A Mountain Kitchen is a unique space consisting of a production kitchen, 30 seat bistro and retail area as well as an outdoor patio for seating to enjoy the Purcell mountain views. The touch and feel of the space is designed with modern rustic elements. We believe in low food miles supporting a local food network by creating positive relationships with local farmers and growers. Many of our ingredients are seasonal being sourced throughout British Columbia and Alberta. The creation of delicious products also requires passion and quality ingredients. Our Chefs use the finest ingredients combined with simple techniques to bring out the natural flavours of seasonal foods. We have an appreciation for the difference FRESH makes and incorporate this value into the work of the kitchen. As many of the ingredients are locally grown, harvested and raised, the concept of Farm to Fork is regularly featured on our menu. Fresh, local, seasonal with some organic ingredients where it makes sense; ready to cook meals and soups, in-house menu featuring a wood burning oven, fresh baked bread and other delights, a great cup of coffee and a small feature wine/beer list the accompanies our in-house menu.

Finally got to go here today. We arrived on Monday and they are closed Monday and Tuesday. We dropped in for a
Lunch to go and to check out dinner options. My sandwich was fabulous as was the home made bread and the side green salad. Really good! We went back tonight for dinner. The tiger prawn curry was excellent without being too spicy. My husband had the 1/2 baked chicken and I snuck fries from his plate. They were great and I would have eaten his roasted veggies if I wasn't stuffed. We want to go here at least one more time before we head home this week. It would be so lovely to be here in the warm (dry!) weather and linger over dessert and coffee outside. Maybe next time....

I'd give anything to find out how they made their passionfruit curd. Then put it on a baked meringue shell with whipped cream and fresh blackberries. Mmmmm, good.
Who'd have thought such a place would exist in little Fairmont?

We had a lunch of salads and appetizers out on their patio. Everything was delicious, especially the meatballs, the sauce tasted fresh and sweet with a strong but not overpowering basil flavor. We shared a slice of blackberry cheesecake, it was light and airy and scrumptious. We're going back for breakfast on our last morning in town.

Highly recommended locally, and popular on TripAdvisor - believe it and go!
Service is genuinely friendly and good.

We had the Caesar - mmmm....fresh ingredients make such a difference - so tasty.
Meatcicles - to try the ribs - good, though I'm not a fan of having the sauce slathered on just before serving.
Thai Prawn Curry - a favourite for good reason!
Creme Brulee - probably the BEST we've ever had.
Chocolate Mousse - delicious. Both desserts beautifully presented.
Pizza - I saw it and my mouth was watering. Such a shame it was our last night in the area. =(

Not the kind of restaurant that kids would appreciate.
Designed to be the open, friendly, high-ceiling, we're-all-having-fun kind of place, which means: awfully noisy. It was good to get out. We would've been on the patio if it had been warmer.

We ate again at From Scratch tonight because we had to see if the food and the service would be as outstanding as it had been the night before. Tonight was even better; friendly prompt service based on "seat yourself, pick up a menu and we'll be there when you need us". We couldn't resist the pate/plum chutney appetizer a second night in a row but instead of last night's excellent pizza tonight I had lamb shank and my wife had the mushroom risotto. The lamb was some of the richest I've ever tasted and the risotto was 5 stars.
From Scratch lives the fresh food philosophy they espouse and they do it without compromising taste, presentation or generosity of servings. 5 stars.
