Sunchaser Vacation Villas at Riverside
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Thnaks to tripadvisor we had a great view of the golf course.. not the parking lot. A reviewer said to ask for side A so we did. Side B not only looks over the parking lot but their patio BBQ is also on the walkway next to the parking lot. It looks like the BBQ might be shared as well. No wonder no one uses them.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Units are clean and well equiped. Stainless steel fry pans always stick so we took advantage of the teflon grill offered at the office.

I had a bicycle accident and when my husbnd called the office to find the closest clinic they sent over a first aid trained rep and cleaning lady. There was a LOT of blood so they were both a welcome site. The cleaning lady even scrubbed the blood off my shoes. Unfortunately my pants had blood on the bottom so she THREW MY PANTS AWAY! I had only worn them a few times so I asked the manager for $30 so I could replace them. No deal. She offered videos which we said NO to. She offered a short sleeve cotton blouse so I accepted.

Room Tip: Ask for side A!! If you don't want to haul all your stuff up stairs ask for main floor as well.

we have been going to Fairmont for nine years as a couple and as a family and we have always enjoyed our stay.

on this trip we stayed in the riverside villas, which are the oldest on the property. They are starting to show there age in that the style is outdated but the buidings and property are all very well maintained. The villas are lockoff units which mean there are two one bedroom units. the 'A' unit is the biggest of the two and has the best view. in this case we overlooked the golf course. the 'B' side unit is smaller and overlooks the parking lot. both units are fully equiped with everything except food. the bathrooms all have large jet tubs and both units have fireplaces.

My wife and I along wilh one of our sons and his girlfriend enjoyed the area during the first week of October. the weather was perfect for late season golfing and hiking, which is why we choose fairmont. The only down side in going during October is that this is between season's and most of the summer attractions are closed and none of the winter activities are open yet.

we loved the cool morning hikes with an afternoon round of golf followed by a bbq on the deck and watching the sun set.

Sunchaser Villas at Riverside
Hillside

For travelers who plan extensive touring through the Canadian Rockies National Parks, the Sunchaser Villas is a great place to rest and relax between outings.

We had two one bedroom condos. One unit was at the Riverside development and was conveniently located next to the tennis courts, golf club, and the Rec center. The unit was spotless and maintained to perfection. That being said, the sleep sofa was as uncomfortable as any sleep sofas can be. A pillow top mattress cover would greatly enhance the comfort. The double bed in the bed room could use a pillow top cover too!
The unit has clean, serviceable if somewhat dated furnishings. But, the luxury of the Jacuzzi and spa shower more than compensates for the furniture. The kitchen has a small refrigerator and microwave but no oven. Communal gas grills are located outside and appear to be available when needed. The wireless Internet signal was strong from this unit.

The second unit was a Hillside unit and was most luxurious in comparison to the Riverside unit. Again, it was spotless and impeccably maintained. It is a short five minute walk to the golf club and Rec Center. The interior is spacious with a leather sofa and chair grouped around a gas fireplace. The bedroom has a very comfortable king sized bed and plenty of closet and dresser storage. The bath is large with a spa shower. The kitchen has a full sized refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher and a cozy table and chairs. Gas grills are located at central locations outside, though we did not see anyone using them. A shared washer/dryer in the entrance hall helped extend our meager wardrobes for the week. We had very little luck with the wireless signal and ended up having to leave the unit to use the Internet.

There is a restaurant at the golf club named Dappers that became our "hang out" for most of the time we spent at the resort. Dappers is operated by the nearby Fairmont Springs Hotel and adds greatly to the ambiance of the resort. We had coffee there in the morning and returned from our outings to enjoy the daily dinner special. The staff is friendly, energetic and full of advice about where to go and what to see. The only downside is that Dappers is unaffiliated with Sunchaser and there is no billing to your weekly account.

The staff at Rec Center is friendly, extremely knowledgeable and helpful in every respect. Without exception, their advice was always on target. We loved the tip about visiting the Natural Hot Springs after 8:30 pm. At half price, what a way to end a busy day! We also enjoyed the media room, pool tables and heated pool at the Rec Center very much.

The only downside to our choice of Sunchaser Villas was the distance we had to travel to see the parks. We booked late and could not find a resort closer to Banff. Had we planned more in advance, we would not have had to spend so much time on the road. But, given the comfort and convivial staff at the Sunchaser, we'd highly recommend the resort.

Room Tip: Travel in early September after Labor Day. All of the Canadian children are back in school and all...

We were very lucky, as we stayed in room 8115A, which had a great view and the room was great as well. However, we could see that many of the rooms had views of the parking lot and worse. Not sure if those were the lock off rooms, but if stuck with one of those I would have packed up and left. Whoever drew up the plans for this place should be tarred and feathered. With ours being so nice, I felt guilty and sad whenever we walked by and saw those in the bad locations. When we took the elevator up to our floor, we had to walk through the patio area of two of the rooms to get to our room. After that, we only used the stairs. The staff was great to us, but then we had nothing to complain about. The local golf is great, the area is great, so you should still be able to have a good time if you are willing to get out and about. Just don't plan on sitting out and enjoying your view, if stuck with one of the bad ones, and it appears there are many.

After 35 years I was so looking forward to seeing the Canadian Rockies again. We exchanged our timeshare through RCI for Sunchaser Villas. The pictures of the villas were gorgeous and the veiw from the balcony exquisite. For months we looked forward to sitting there with our morning coffee and watching the sun rise. Instead we got a view of the parking lot with some muddy construction equipment and the RV park across a busy highway. We were told that we could not be moved because the resort was full and to contact RCI. We did and they said that they had no control over where the resort placed us. The area is beautiful and the one bedroom condo is adequate for sleeping and eating but we will have to see the scenery from somewhere else than our balcony. Feels like a rip off. Wish we had stayed in Banff like we did the rifts two days of our trip. The A units at least have a view of the golf course so if you are determine ed to come here at least make sure you book one of those. Also make sure you buy groceries before you come. There is only one market within about a 10-15 mile radius and the prices are crazy.

Room Tip: Not the B units!

building had wood rot and poorly maintained. mold in rooms. beds were very uncomfortable and had lumpy pillows. we requested newer ones but they were no better. it is obvious the resort is not putting any money into the place to keep it up. we did get a nice view of golf course from room. i would not recommend this place to anyone. if you go you've been warned.

We were told we would have a corner unit which was larger than most - not true - I hope! I'm afraid we were very disappointed in our unit. Was dark and with no view ( except for parking lot) did not want to be in unit very much. Maybe that was the plan - go out and spend money? It really was to bad as the area around was very inviting but when you have a "cave" to go back to
its just not something we will do again. We seen where there were some of the units looked very nice with a balcony and more open interior. i guess it was our loss to be placed in one of the "B" units which we would give an "F". As described in other reviews the units are tired and in need of upgrading. The employees were sympathic but not willing to move us when we told them that we were not happy with our accommodation. Said they were at near full capacity and could not change our assigned unit. I really don't think that was the case -they just didn't want to have to
tidy up another unit. Unforunately it put a damper on an otherwise great get away and visit to our
friends to the north.

Room Tip: Don't accept a 1-bd "B" unit facing parking lot
