“an over nighter”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

having read the various reviews we were able to book a studio room that suited us and could not have been happier. It certainly needs a bit of TLC but over all it was spotlessly clean, a wonderful comfortable bed, plenty of storage for bags, and heaps of room to move about. The shower was enormous with lots of high pressure hot water. The room faced the main road but traffic noise was not an issue.

Room Tip: Choose a corner suite away from the lifts.

We stayed in this property in May 2013. I had not checked the area out when I booked so I was happy that the room turned out to be nice ( if a little dated).
It was very clean and the staff were very friendly .
This booking was great because it was a Flybuys reward.
Our room faced out to the road but to be honest we did not notice the traffic even though it was a Friday night.
It is a walk up ( Stairs only) property so this should be considered if you have a lot of bags to carry. We were on an extended holiday so this made it a bit of a mission getting up to the second floor.

Room Tip: Choose a ground floor room if you have a lot of luggage

Good location, minutes from Takapuna central. this place could do so much better! The room was smelly and cold. Windows should be opened up a bit ona sunny day... There was a heatpump in the room, but broken. Bed sheets should be bright and clean not grey and old. Small table lamp needs new light bulbs- not working. Bathroom - weird. Light is in the main part was fine, but the separated shower has no light at all! Dark. Shower curtain was patchy and dirty. Floor also needed abit of clean...attention to details, learn from mistakes... This place could be fantastic, but need new management , a great maintenance person and training to cleaners.

Close to the shops in Takapuna and reasonably priced, but dark and a bit "tired". The use of low output economy bulbs in rooms that have balconies above over shadowing the windows combines to make the rooms dark even during the day.

Room Tip: Top floor has better light but more traffic noise, ground floor darker but quieter.

I stayed at this Motor Inn last year and was very disappointed, would not have booked again however my work put us up here for 2 nights while on a course.
Still not impressed. Arrived to very casual greeting. Toilet smelt like it had not been cleaned in a long time. Carpet was pulled up at the corners. Adverstised Sky Movies but 2 sport chanels instead and when I rang they informed me they had sorted out the problem - NOT.
Would not recommend a stay here unless you are in desperated need of being within walking distance to Takapuna.

Room Tip: My room had a queen and a single. Noisy as there is no double glazing.

Our short stay (4 nights) here was comfortable and convenient, however the 4 * rating I saw somewhere on the web is a bit of a stretch. It's pretty definitely only a 3 * establshment.
There was a lot of traffic noise in the 3rd floor room we were allocated, but we were moved to ground floor without hesitation, and that was acceptable.

Maintence was noticeably lacking - and included a leaking tap in the hand basin, a drummy tile at the entrance to the bathroom, and a trip hazard - the raised strip between carpet and tiles, would easily break a toe in the dark. The electric blankets didn't work, although they were hardly needed while we were there. Overall, the room showed it age, but was still OK value. The bedroom was roomy and the bathrom was exceptionally large as was the shower recess.

Management tried to please and generally succeeded. It would be great if they just update the rooms before my next stay.

Room Tip: Keep away from the main road. Handy to many restaurants, but you'd need a car - mostly about...

I stayed here for almost two months as I was working in Auckland. I found this place wonderful! Ash (manager) was always helpful (we had a lot of requests during our stay) and always friendly. The rooms are bigger then most motels I stay in for the same price (I pretty much live out of motels with my job). The showers and bathrooms are huge! My room caught the sun during a majority of the day and had a wee balcony. The rooms were very clean and tidy (not sure what some of these other people are writing about in their reviews). No musty smells, no smoke smells, it really was nice to come back to after a long days work. Really close to the beach and town too!
