We've been here a number of times, definitely worth the trip. Very warm and welcoming, great atmosphere and tasty food.

Not fancy or overdone but tasty and satisfying.

We went as a couple on a Saturday night, didn't book, but got a table before the rush. The staff were excellent, loved the food. Glad we were early as by time we left the place was really busy.

Run by an Italian, Al Forno is always busy and has a buzz. Disappointed in our meals this time as my veal was smothered in tomato sauce. One person's veal was quite tough too. My husband's squid was very good so take your chance !

It was our first visit to Al Forno and overall it was a good experience. The food was really good with a wide ranging menu including pasta and pizza.
No kids menu and meals on the pricey side.
It's clearly very popular with locals as it got packed from around 6.30pm.
The main downside was the service which was not very welcoming when we placed our order and it felt as if we were an inconvenience. Not all staff were this way with the young waiter very pleasant and checked if we enjoyed our meal. We were also given a time limit for our meal.
This was probably enough for me not to visit this restaurant again and to try another one in
Takapuna, which is a shame as the food was very good.

We wanted somewhere for a date night. Somewhere easy, tasty and with good service and after a recommendation from someone who knows, Al Forno fit the bill.
The restaurant was heaving with couples, families, groups of girlfriends and everyone we saw was welcomed with open arms in true Italian style. Most of people walking through the door appear to be regulars so no wonder it was such humming.
We shared a pizza bread, made fresh in front of me in an uber cool pizza oven. It was by far the best pizza bread I have had in an age. Smokey, crisp and oozing Parmesan and garlic we were tempted to cancel our mains and get stuck into pizzas!
We had the lasagna and the Spaghetti Aglio Olio. The lasagna was piping hot and covered in mozzarella and the spaghetti was peppered with whole garlic cloves throughout, just delicious.
We'll be back, probably next week!
