My husband, friends, and I have eaten at the Mount Burgess Dining room four or five times in the last ten years and have consistently found the food to be very good to excellent. Ask the service person for recommendations and save room for dessert. The homemade bumbleberry pie, a mixed berry pie, was wonderful.

We dined here while staying at the lodge.

We had a lovely romantic dinner with gorgeous views of the lake. Upon our arrival at the dining room at our reserved time we were told they were running a little behind and they would seat us shortly, we hardly even sat down in the lobby before we were being seated so we didn't have any problems there. Another couple without reservations came in behind us and were told they couldn't get seated for at least 1 1/2 hours so I highly recommend reservations. Our waiter was pleasant and courteuous. We ordered the mushroom gnocchi for an appetizer, it was terrific, nice flavours and balance. For dinner we had the halibut which was a large portion, cooked nicely and good flavors and the pork shoulder which was nicely cooked but very bland, the apple slaw had very little flavour which would have enhanced the pork significantly. For dessert we ordered the molten chocolate cake (warm, creamy and delicious) and the strawberry shortcake (stale, bland cake with nice strawberries). The coffee they serve is delicious (we think it's Illy, but not sure). All in all a nice experience but the food was inconsistent.

Upon arrival at the dining room for breakfast we waited to be sat for about 4 minutes, everyone who passed by said someone would be right with us... by the time we were seated there were 3 other groups behind us to be seated as well. They had a hot/cold buffet for $19, we did not try it as the food was mostly uncovered and sitting at room temperature with the occassional dirty hand or fly on it. We ordered a wild mushroom omellet (delicious, and served with terrific hashbrowns) and the buttermilk blueberry pancakes. The first time the pancakes came out they looked okay - very flat and only three medium in size, but nicely decorated with blueberries and butter on the plate - except they weren't completely cooked and the inside was still runny. We sent them back and were shocked when the next plate came out with three nearly dollar sized pancakes slapped on a plate no syrup, blueberries or butter - it looked like a kids meal at IHOP, so again I sent them back. For $11 and the second time around I expect a little more effort. The waitress mentioned she had never seen them that small either and suggested I try the banana french toast instead so I did. The presentation was very nice with cinnmon apples on the plate and the portion was huge, a few of the bottom toasts were cold on the inside but I couldn't eat that much anyways. When the bill arrived the waitress had removed the pancakes/french toast and coffee from the bill, we were surprised but appreciative. The assistant manager came over to tell us it was taken off the bill after we had received and thanked the waitress; we found the asst. manager aloof and sensed her "apology" was an inconvenience to her, we noticed she was quite loud in reprimanding employees - another lesson or two in customer experiences and how to smile would be beneficial. Our waitress was sweet and apologetic and her patience in dealing with her manager should be awarded.

We enjoyed our dinner experience, we did not enjoy our breakfast experience and I doubt we would eat here again - there are a few great places for a lot cheaper in Field.
