We thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay at this out-of-the way lodge. Perfect for your quiet, summer get-away. Surrounded by majestic mountains and a beautiful mountain stream runs through the property. The on-site restaurant was typical of a major city fine dining experience....food was delicious and beautifully presented in the cathedral style great room of the lodge.

so, we made reservations to stay in Banff for 3 nights at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. the first night was so dreadful (room size, endless nickel and diming of everything, jellyfish texture room mattresses, very mediocre food and more; but this isn't a Fairmont Banff Springs review) we immediately checked-out the following morning with plans to stay in one of many decent looking inns and hotels in the city of Banff. prior to making any lodging committments, we set about our plans for the day. after visiting one of the many stunning glacier lakes in the area, my wife came across a post card size advertisment for the Catherdral Mountain Lodge at one of the gift shops. the pictures of the Cathedral Mountain Lodge cabins looked too good to be true. in the car returning to Banff my wife called and was told there was cabin availability, there was, so off to the Cathedral Mountain Lodge we went.

Catherdral Mountain Lodge is located on the banks of the Kicking Horse River in Yoho National Park. This is a glacier fed river whose origin is above the Takakkaw Falls, a mere few miles up the road. If you have ever seen David Hockney's Pool Paintings from the late 60s-early 70s, then you know how Hockney captured the unique swimming pool blue color of pools in Beverly Hills and greater Santa Monica mountains. well, the Kicking Horse River's color is David Hockney Pool Paintings' Blue. and apparently this is the natural state of this glacial river.

Cathedral Mountain Lodge cabins are authentic and elegant log cabins. spacious, immpecably clean, and super comfortable with a authentic stone fireplace in each cabin. the cabin we stayed had a loft for kids. Cathedral Mountain Lodge has NO connectivity. No cable, cell, wi-fi, or even phones. if you must check emails, i had to drive about 15 minutes on the Trans Canadian Highway to a point that had connectivity. the dining room is very beautiful, spacious and comfortable. the food was mediocre. the Cathedral Mountain Lodge is below the Trans-Canadian Highway, so at night there is the feint sound of the highway. also, the CML's kitchen has a blower/fan that should be turned off after the kitchen is closed at night. from our cabin we could not hear this blower/fan, but we i awoke one morning for a early morning walk, it was unpleasant to hear during my stroll.

this is a great 'basecamp' for families that are on a vacation in the Banff, Lake Louise, Moraine, and Yoho National park areas.

If you want a quality place to stay in the Rockies, which isnt crammed with coach loads of tourists, this is the hotel for you. By a rushing river, towered over by several mountains, you can't help be feel in the Rockies in this hotel. Use of facilities at their sister hotel (canoeing and guided walks at Moraine Lake) are worth taking advantage of.
A spectacular waterfall is a short car ride up the road, and there's forest all around.

Hope you have as good a time as we did.

My husband and I were married at Cathedral Mountain Lodge a year ago this June. It was an incredible day and the lodge made sure that everything went off without a hitch. We were honestly blown away. The wedding was beyond what we ever imagined it could be. The scenery beautiful, the customer service thoughtful and the food very, very fine. We decided, that weekend, that we would make it a tradition to visit CML every June for our anniversary.

When we returned this June, we opened our cabin door to chilled champagne, truffles and fruit - compliments of CML. They had left us a beautiful blanket and corkscrew set as an anniversary gift. We were touched by the generosity and thought put into welcoming us. When we arrived James, the head chef, popped by the front desk to say hi. That night, he also came out to see us during our incredible dinner - he remembered us well and we were very touched by that. One of the great things about CML being small is that it is likely that the staff will remember you when you return and that you are always well looked after. I know that the general manager Chris Bates makes a real effort to never overextend the staff so that the level of service remains incredibly high.

The pancake self-service breakfast was a peaceful and perfect start to a hike. We really liked this new addition since last year - included in the room price as well!

My husband and I would highly recommend CML to anybody seeking a peaceful, luxurious cabin (seems like an oxymoron, but it's true) get away.

best,
Andrea and Martin

Just wanted to say that this place was really beautfil. Just looked at the website again and reminded us how great it was. Cabin was fantastic. After a day hiking we retreated to cabin and our own log fire - which was really good fun. Then later on had an amazing meal in the lodge. Lodge and cabins are a great design an look good under Cathedral mountain. Would recommend this to anyone
