Cathedral Mountain Lodge (CML) is a very expensive place and does not offer value for the money. Via a travel agency in The Netherlands we book via the Canadian largest tour operator JonView two nights in DeLuxe King cabin / lodge at CML. The price we paid for 2 nights is CAD 1.100 (incl. all tax) so we had very high expectations.

The place is really at the foot of a mountain and is indeed nice to stay. However, the lodge is very disappointing. We have lodge 04 which is the half of a wooden cabin. This means also half of the space we would expect. We can walk around the bed but there is very limited space to stall our luggage. There is no kitchenette, there is no fridge, there is no decent cooling, we experience a lot of noise of the highway to Field. We can indeed hear the nice background of the river. But the sound of cars and trucks passing by on the highway is exceeding the sound of the river.

The restaurant is far below expectations and the quality of the food is 6 on a scale of 10. However, the price level is 10 on a scale of 10. We had two starters and two main courses. Including one (average) white house wine and half liter of (average) red wine, our bill was CAD 170.
The restaurant is unbelievable expensive, certainly compared to the poor service level. We ordered two medium/rare tenderloin beef but both were is cooked medium/well-done. All glasses - not only our’s - had many finger prints of the personnel and a lot of water scale which they were not able to remove after three attempts to polish the glasses.

All-in-all, I’m not satisfied at all about this place and I would not recommend my friends to book it.

Eating breakfast while surrounded by sheer mountain cliffs in the middle of the Rockies, the fire crackling after a nights sleep in the best bed ever, is heaven.
We were particularly impressed with the staff, whether it was reception, wait staff or cleaner who could not do enough to help, friendly, chatty but professional. Emails were answered in detail and quickly (Callum was our man there!) It was a plus to have access to Moraine Lake as the Car park was full and there was access only for a few.
If you like a touch of luxury, then it’s worth it. (Could not click on the category ratings for some reason but they all would have been excellent)

Room tip: Ask to be near the river, some rooms have real fires that you look after and others are gas (with a flame) so depends what you prefer.

Was looking for a special place to vacation with family. CML was beautiful inside and out. Quiet, away from crowds, gorgeous natural setting. Restaurant was first rate.
Was near to roads but we never noticed noise. Just the rushing river.

The location is lovely, set right next to the river. Peaceful setting. Breakfast and afternoon tea were nice. We stopped in a king deluxe lodge and it was smaller than expected and was attached to another lodge next door. The photos give you the impression they are individual lodges - this is not the case. Unfortunately the walls are very thin and you can hear every word and every footstep from next door! Wasn’t an issue overnight but if you want a lie in you may be woken up at 6am by next door.
Lovely place and setting, just disappointing about the noise.

I booked a night at this lodge 6 months prior to our arrival. It was just as beautiful in person as it was online. The main lodge is close to the road with beautiful log cabins scattered throughout the property and along the kicking horse river.
Check in was easy and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The Main lodge was beautiful and cozy with an indoor and outdoor rock fireplace. There was an outdoor seating/ dining area that was heated as well.
There was a fire pit at the river edge for guest use.
We booked a night on the premier cabin. It was a beautifully appointed cabin with a wood burning fireplace and a log king bed.
There was true pride of ownership in the cabin and Main lodge.
We had dinner at the lodge which was worth every penny! I had halibut and my husband had sturgeon. Dessert was amazing. The room rate also included breakfast which was delicious.
My only complaint was we only had one night!
