“Unwelcoming”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

Though this hotel is well located, well built and serves decent food, we won't stay there again, since we found the staff and service awful. As a starter, we arrived to check in, the manager was casually chatting to a couple and didn't acknowledge us for almost 10 minutes, which was quite unprofessional. When we went to buy some wine at the bar, there were aboutn5 staff there doing nothing but stare at the guests as if they had never seen anyone else in their lives, in a very strange way. The staff were quite odd, acted as if they were above their jobs, and seemed liked they didn't know what they were doing. I found it hard to explain to my husband and friends who were also there, until someone found the perfect way to describe how they thought the staff were: eerie.
On another note, the breakfast area is very badly set up and guests kept bumping into each other trying to serve themselves, which was very uncomfortable. So not worth is to pay a decent amount of money to have very bad service from an unprofessional staff and awkward set up.

The staff were attentive and James, the hotel manager, was professional and responsive when assisting with a minor problem.
My wife and I only stayed one night in a deluxe twin cabin which was great, and I think to really appreciate all that is on offer, guided hiking, complementary canoeing etc., you do need more time at the lodge.
The food was good, the Merlot superb, and the geographical position of the lodge is also ideal for exploring north and south of Lake Louise.
Check in/out times are generous so you never feel the need to hurry.

I spent one night here in the middle of June and all I can say is that I a can't wait to go back. I was on my way to the lower mainland and this was a great place to stop but I actually want to come back and enjoy the lodge and the surrounding area, with my wife and kids.
The restaurant puts out fantastic meals and the breakfast in the morning is included. In addition, the fireplace in the main lodge is a great place to gather and exchange stories with other guests, AND (get this) have S'MORES which they provide. How great is that?! There are plenty of comfortable chairs to lounge in, in the main lodge and the service of the staff was great.

I had the pleasure of meeting the lodge manager, James, who is fantastic as well as Paul at the Front Desk. The server (I want to say Lindsay but I'm not 100% certain) was also super kind and friendly - so they are doing it right.

The cabin itself was super cozy with a king sized bed and an oversize soaker tub in the bathroom. Bathroom toiletries were by AVEDA - which doesn't matter much to me, but I know my wife will like them!

Anyways - great place, great people and in it's in a stunning setting. If you're looking to spend some time in the 'Lake Louise' area, consider this instead and make the short drive back to Lake Louise or Banff.

We stayed in a lovely cabin with a fireplace. We'd booked through Luxury Link and had a bit of a mix up between Luxury Link and the hotel, but James, the manager, calmly and graciously worked it out with us until we found a solution. All rooms here come with complimentary breakfast and you can choose from cereals, yogurt and fruit to a full-on hot buffet of bacon, eggs and toast. The young staff is friendly and thoughtful...you can tell there is good management and a positive attitude here.

We'd been worried it would be too out-of-the-way to really explore the area, but found it an even more central location than their sister property, Moraine Lake Lodge. We drove up to the Columbia Icefields, went hiking in both Yoho and Banff Parks, explored Emerald Lake, and enjoyed the tiny town of Field during our stay at Cathedral Mountain Lodge. It was wonderful to come back after a day out and enjoy a good soak in the cabin's deep bathtub, drink a glass of wine in the main lodge, then settle in for a wonderful meal.

Earlier reviews here on Tripadvisor mentioned the lodge was close to a main road and to the train, but we found neither of these things bothersome. We stayed at Cathedral Mountain Lodge for 5 nights and Moraine Lake Lodge for 2 nights, and though Moraine Lake Lodge has the greater reputation, we enjoyed our stay at Cathedral Mountain Lodge MUCH MUCH more!

The Wife and I had one night here, with a first class meal in the restaurant. The outdoor fire place is a brilliant social experience. The cabin was very beautiful, with your own fire place. The customer service was superb - we had power problems which resulted in no electricity from around 2330-0930 (most of which we were asleep) but still had heating and hot water. As a result the manager gave us the room for free. I really enjoyed our stay anyway but the refund was still nice!

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights en route from Jasper to Banff with the aim of exploring Yoho park. We have been lucky enough to stay in some great places around the world but this was well up with the best! We had a cosy, comfortable and peaceful cabin and really couldn't hear the traffic at all. The setting is spectacular and the river and mountains together with the lay out of the place make for a unique stay. We were so impressed by the dining in the main lodge. The food was really excellent, local sources and excellent cooking of an imaginative menu. The wines were also very good. From arrival to departure the staff were outstanding - professional yet friendly - and Erin and Caitlin really looked after us at dinner. Great breakfast too. Well worth the trip and a really good stay. And Yoho is spectacular too!

We visited CML on our honeymoon, and from the start things were great. Our booking was off by a couple days (probably our own fault), but they let us stay the correct nights and did not charge for the two nights we missed. The cabin was very nice, with a large tub and beautiful views. The gas fireplace in our first room wasn't working, so we were upgraded to a larger room with a wood-burning fireplace for no cost (again, the staff was very kind). The resort is kind of isolated in the middle of the park, which was perfect for us, as it served as a base from which we visited different corners of the two parks. There are S'mores every night by the river and breakfast each morning was good (I loved the homemade granola).

The setting was wonderful, right on Kicking Horse river surrounded by mountains. Agree with the other reviews that the cabins were very close together, we did keep the windows shut at night, but sat on the porch to enjoy the views. As far as being close to the highway, it really didn't bother us. The only noise we heard was the sound of the river rushing by - not a bad sound at all. The closest town (Field) has only one restaurant, but we were travelling around Banff and Yoho so ate in different locations. We never actually had dinner at the lodge so I can't speak to that, although the prices were rather high from looking at the menu (30-40 per plate).

In summary, we got a great deal and more than our money's worth for this place. It was a beautiful place to stay, wonderfully quiet and away from the touristy, over-commercialized Banff township area
