“Not the Ritz”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

Having stayed the previous night in a really excellent hotel for the same price, TGDL was disappointing. The room was tiny, extras minimal, the buzz of a generator was constant, and the restaurant was a little pricy. On the other hand, the staff was friendly enough, and compared to the other available places in the area, the room was cheap.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a room with a king sized bed, balcony and bathroom. I was actually very reluctant after reading all the reviews from people on trip advisor about how awful the lodge was. I actually think the place was really great and people just expect way to much for paying such a small amount of money! Your here to ski and have fun.. If your wanting something amazing spend more money and stay at the fairmont! Really nice and friendly staff, great little room - no smelly carpet and gross furniture like some people have said. Bed was so comfy after a long day out snowboarding.. Sure bathroom is a little dated but who cares? You get a warm shower after being in the freezing cold snow all day! - and its clean!! The room was nicely heated and cosy! Yes there is some noise from the traffic that goes along the highway but nothing you can't sleep through in my opinion! Food at the restaurant downstairs was quite nice.. They have quite a good menu.. Something for everyone and also specials every night! Also - free breakfast everyday (coffee, tea, cereals, bread/toast an toppings etc). If we come back this way again - well deffo come back!

Great location. Good service. Decent room. We found it a bit noisy at night due to the bar downstairs. I would stay here again. For its location, this hotel could be easily be converted into a luxury/pricey one with some renovation but glad the owner doesn't seem to want to do it.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from bar and other side of the highway.

We stayed here and got a deal including ski passes. We moved rooms from the adjacent building to the main building to avoid parties. Both buildings are fairly old but seem to be well maintained and being renovated. Both rooms were clean, however there was a lot of stray hairs to be found. The beds were comfortable.

Made the huge mistake of buying the $30 food package for two days ($60 total). On the first day the food was so bad we asked for our money back, to which we go "we can't do refunds" so we ended up eating in Lake Louise and losing and extra $30. With the cost of the bad food we would have been better off staying somewhere in Lake Louise for the same price.

Our rate was $160 for the night, which was a complete waste of money. The room was tiny and extremely hot. We could not turn down the heat in the room, and our window was frozen shut and covered by a huge block of ice so we couldn't open it to cool the place down. We told the front desk a about the window, they said they knew about it but nothing was going to be done. The sink and shower faucet both continually leaked constantly and the shower was old and dirty. The carpet in our room was stained, old and dirty. The hotel is located in a pass with no cell service, which is fine, however none of the rooms have a land line in them so there is no way to communicate with anybody. Terrible service, terrible rooms and not cheap. Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else.

Excellent value for a ski trip with your buddies. Referring to the $69 deal, thats a nights accommodation AND a lift ticket - where else can beat this? Even buying a lift ticket at the ski hill would be more than $69!

Of course with this kind of price you should not expect the Chateau Lake Louise level of quality. I also advise advising NO BUTTER on your Hamburger. I am not sure if people enjoy this but I was disgusted by it!

Room was small, clean, safe and cozy. If you are looking to Ski the Rockies, this is the place for you. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, this hotel is located in the midst of the mountains but might not meet your quality requirements.

I loved it, and am already planning to go back in 1 month!

Room Tip: Ask for NO Butter on your hamburger (unless that's something you enjoy)

We Stayed here as it had been recommended by friends . . It was our most expensive stay of all our tour but accomodation is at a premium in that area I presume. W e had a loft suite with very basic furniture no tea/coffee making facillties . The reception staff were ok.We ate in the restaurant and werent impressed .My duck was very undercooked and bloody but was told it was meant to be pink. They did take it back and cook it some more but wasnt the best duck I have eaten
