The only good thing about this lodge is it location (and the view). It is close to Lake O'Hara so if you do not want to spend well over $500 for two people (at Lake O'Hara Lodge) or not sleep in a backpack camping at Lake O'Hara (which requires 3 months in advance reservation and gets booked on the first day of opening) your proximity solution quite likely is going to be this lodge. I bet the management knows it and exploits every bit of this, offering the bare bones accommodation. A night for two was about $150 with the taxes per night.

When you check in they ask you to initial a common sense list for additional charges. We slept in room 38 in Wapta Lodge, which is behind the stairs. It had two queen beds, two chairs, small (bistro) table. No coffee machine, microwave, fridge or telephone (you need to go on foot to the front office). I seem to remember that there was no hair drier. The free WiFi was not working that night. No hot tub or swimming pool in either lodges. Two bath towels in the bathroom. No ice machine.

There is a railway track on the opposite shore of Wapta Lake. One can hear multiple trains that traverse during the night.

The bar had beer that was quite tasty (made in Revelstoke, BC).

Beware, people get up very early (before 6am) and go about their busyness without consideration = lots of noise especially on the decks and on the squeaky stairs. In the morning there was a skimpy breakfast with wide choice of sweet coffees (machine made).

Room Tip: For less human noise try upper floor or rooms away from the stairs (first floor). However, you can n...

This lodge was a nice surprise. Cheap as compared to others in area. Nice location with wonderful view. Only 15 kms from lake louise. Fresh bbq food at average rates. We would highly recommend this place.

When we arrived and saw the room, we were surprised by the lack of windows. The room had one very small window and it had been painted shut. The room actually looked OK, but it was a hot day and the room was hot and stuffy. The front desk said that new windows had been ordered. We were encouraged to leave our door open until evening. They said none of their windows had screens. There has been a lot of rain in the area and it was very buggy. We found a spot in Lake Louise at the Mountaineer Inn, They actually had screens on their windows. Try the Mountaineer first.

The front desk person at the Great Divide was helpful

Pictures online were much more flattering than hotel. This is basically a bare bones hotel that doesn't have AC, no in room coffee machine, no refrigerator. They offer free Wifi, but only for one device. If more than one device, you have to pay 10 dollars more. There's no public ice machine and when asked for ice at front counter, an employee went to kitchen and gave me 1/2 a bag of ice for my cooler.

This Lodge is just a steal of your money. I would have expected to pay about $70 a night for what we got, not $145 - the room was dirty (hair everywhere), the beds where noisy, the towels stained... what more do you need to know? Save your money and go somewhere else. It's very noisy and if you intend to stay there with your kids they won't sleep because of the noise from the highway and the beds... Very disappointed!!!!

Room Tip: We were at the further end and it was still noisy with the door closed so I guess there is nowhere t...

Hotel is good for the price. The room we stayed in was sparse but adequate for the cost. Fifteen minutes from Lake Louise and one half hour from Banff. The hotel staff were friendly and the food served at the hotel was tasty. Room was a bit noisy as the Trans Canada Highway runs right by the place and trucks could be heard through out the night,

Room Tip: Rooms on the back maybe quieter but remember it is along Highway one, Canada.s busiest highway throu...

The best thing about this motel is the surrounding scenery..overlooking the river and forested mountains. Service in the restaurant was a bit slow, as was registration. The room had no air conditioning, but thankfully had a fan as the road and train traffic was too loud to keep the window open. The room needs better lighting. The beds were comfortable, and bathroom necessities plentiful. The rate seemed high for such a spartan room; however, it's near Lake Louise and a high tourist season.
