My husband and I stayed for 6 nights in this wonderful cabin in the middle of the most beautiful land we have ever seen. I’m so happy I found this place. It had everything we could have ever needed and was extremely comfortable as well as immaculate. It’s location couldn’t be more perfect for those ready to explore God’s most beautiful creation. Our most sincere thanks to John for his hospitality and his trail suggestions (which we asked for).
This trip was a 20th anniversary dream come true!
Loved the cabin and location. Great base for exploring the national parks, close to Lake Louise. Quiet, small town away from the crowds. Clean and comfortable, felt like home. Thanks John, we enjoyed our stay.
Previous reviews gave us accurate expectations of this cabin. We found the cabin to be clean, quiet and comfortable with a friendly but not intrusive owner living right next door. Be aware that climbing steps and stairs are required at this property. Field is a neat little mountain village convenient to three spectacular national parks but away from the press of people in nearby tourist towns. Highly recommend staying here if you are in the area.
This was a perfect getaway for our 3rd wedding anniversary. This cabin is in the perfect location between multiple parks, has amazing views, and is just the most comfy and adorable cabin at such a great price. Couldn't ask for anything better.
We have been coming to the Burgess Lookout Guest Cabin now for 4 years and will return. The cabin has everything you need in amazing condition, perfectly clean and John has been amazing year after year. Do yourself a favor and don't let this one get away book it now.
The cabin had everything we needed to be self sufficient for our stay. A hidden gem in the town of Field BC. Location of cabin is off the beaten track which was wonderful. Loved the views of the mountains from the couch. Spent our time snowshoeing in Yoho national park. Highly recommended to get away from high tourist areas
There are so many great things I can mention about this property, but it would take way too long to write. So i'll try to break it down in sections below.
The Cabin: it is very clean, very private and has everything you need to enjoy the Rockies. Kitchen was great, we cooked almost every day during our week stay. Barbeque fired up nicely, as well as the wood stove that's inside, which kept us nice and warm during the evening.
The heated bathroom floors were great as well, one of the best little perks of the cabin. Bed was comfy/cozy and bedroom had plenty of storage for a week's worth of winter clothes. John has utilized every inch of this small cabin to make it your home away from home. Overall the cabin is beautifully decorated, showcasing what the parks have to offer and it's history, John also has plenty of books you can read regarding the parks which will help give you a better idea on what you can do in Yoho, Jasper and Banff.
Location, Location, Location: Snuggled into the mountains in Yoho Nat Park and next to the Kicking Horse River, there is so much to see and do nearby! It is definitely a great place for someone who wants to enjoy the outdoor adventures. Just behind the cabin there is a couple trails you can hike. And if you walk towards the railroad tracks you can walk near the river. Also nearby is Emerald Lake, Wapta falls, Takakkaw Falls and so much more. We wish we had more time to enjoy everything nearby. One week was not enough!
We are accustomed to driving fairly long distances, so driving 30mins -1hour is fine with us to do things like Johnston Canyon, Banff Hot Springs , Sunshine and Mt Norquay skiing and other things in those areas.
Lake Louise is about 20-30mins away from Field, where you can find plenty of activities as well. Golden BC is 40-45 mins away, although most of the time I felt ok to drive. The Drive from Field to Golden during winter conditions is not for the faint of heart. We drove it during a snow storm. You'll make it if you drive slow but it was stressful. If coming from Calgary, make sure to get everything you need in city or Canmore / Banff.
I'm sure John will speak with you to make sure you understand the location of his cabin, he won't confirm unless you understand that there isn't much in field except for wildlife and it's natural beauty. Honestly though, it's such a great place to be to enjoy the outdoors, you step outside in the morning and just enjoy the views. Field is so small, you might only see a couple of people throughout the day. There's only so much I can write on here, you have to experience it for yourself. And this cabin is perfect for a trip to the real Canadian Rockies.
Our host Sonya: Although John couldn't be there when we visited, we had the pleasure of having Sonya host us. She was very helpful and friendly. We loved having her over and she was very knowledgeable with the area so she helped point us in the right direction or gave us some tips.
Can't forget Truffles: The only restaurant in town is a short walk from the cabin, and it's a good! Every time we spoke about Field with someone they always mentioned how great Truffles Pig is. We went there twice for dinner and the food is Great, along with the service! We recommend those staying at the cabin to stop in and enjoy the food there, they also have small events occasionally so check for that as well.
All in all, the cabin is amazing and so is the location! If you want to enjoy the outdoor Canadian Rockies this is the place to be! Just from the reviews alone you can already note that this is a great place to stay. Thanks again John, we look forward to visiting in the future during summer time.
